Price Check Mahindra 5530 & 6530 ?

Thanks, Brian. Are you sure the 5035 (@ 49.5hp) has enough "oomf" for a decent grapple? On the site where your grapple is sold, they suggest a 60hp tractor. So, are you recommending one of their regular grapples for the 5035? Seems like the 5035 wouldn't work with yours plus a load, unless I'm missing something. This tractor has a listed weight of 4,939 lbs. I'll drop in on the Mahindra dealer sometime this week and pic his brain.

Oh, any idea what these tractors sell for? Cheers!

Not that it matters, but where do you see the 60hp recommendation? I do not see any hp recommendations. And yes for moving loose stuff just get their std duty grapple built with 3/8" steel. The 5035 has a loader lift capacity of 2700lb. Even with the heavy duty grapple you would still have plenty of lifting power. Yes the tractor weighs 4939lbs, then add 1400lbs for the loader and 1000lbs for a rear 3pt implement and 1000lbs for filling the tires with fluid and now you have an 8000lb + monster. Yes a bigger tractor makes some of your chores easier to complete, but also cost a lot more $$$$. I personally would get the 5035 vs any of the 30 series tractors for what you have said that you will be doing.

Just my :2cents:

Fair enough. Will look into the 5035 this week. Thanks!

[We recommend a 60 HP machine or stronger to use this grapple.]...
Skid Steer Extreme Root Grapple

Edit: Just checked the Dealers site and he doesn't have the 5035, although I'm sure he could get one. He does have a 6010 HST cab and 6120 Shuttle cab.?? -Rob

You do not need an extreme grapple. Those are really intended for skid steers. Even if you were to get a heavy duty unit you would not need that much grapple. In my opinion the regular 72" unit would be very good for your clean up. Again just my opinion, but stay away from any of the cab tractors. With your working conditions as I understand them, you will end up with broken glass and it is very costly to replace. Before you purchase any tractor, be sure that you set on it and have a feel for how everything is situated for you. Sometimes there are small things that you can live with but annoy you. You are buying a new tractor, get one that fits you and that you are comfortable with. You shouldn't have to get use to anything, get one that fits you right to start with.

Will try to upload a couple pics for you. One shows a snapshot of what is on the hillside. The other is an example of what needs to be removed from the lowland. Weeds are over 6' tall while the green saplings (in the photo) are much taller. This is a very small section of property that needs clearing, but there is more there than meets the eye. Some of it is in boggy land, too.

The 5-8 acres worth is elsewhere and mostly stumps (which will be removed by trackhoe) so should be handled well with just a boxblade. Will have to look for a pic of that area.

One more pic from part way up the hill looking down on the small area to be cleared. In the middle of this would be an ideal location for a small drainage trench. Providing I can make one without getting stuck.

You could play it safe and get the heavy duty grapple and still have plenty of lifting capability remaining. But no way would you need an extreme grapple. Again, just my opinion, but what ever you end up with, LOAD THE TIRES. Literally day and night difference with how the tractor performs.

You say a box blade for where the stumps are to be removed. Are the stumps gone and you do not have to deal with them at all, or do you need to move them to get rid of them? That is a perfect chore to do with a grapple. Are you talking about filling the stump holes with a box blade?

I'm confused. :confused3:

I'm hiring a neighbor (with the trackhoe) to dig out all the stumps. After that, I can either have him pile them for burning or (as you pointed out) I can do that with a grapple. Hadn't even thought about that until you mentioned it. Hmmm, no reason I should pay him to move the stumps at all then. That kind of work would be fun.

I was thinking of using the boxblade for filling the stump holes and then smoothing the entire area out for seeding with fescue.

This would be good. For some reason I was picturing you dragging the stumps around with a box blade and chain and could not figure out why you would want to do that when you had a grapple. :confused2:

A few pics of the larger acreage to be fixed. Can't see the stumps, but trust me, they are there in mass. Most are 12" in diameter and smaller, with only a relative few larger stumps. In the one pic, you can see the hillside (sloping up to the right), the other side of which is the area we previously discussed. LOTS of work for a new tractor to do, no question about that. :licking:
