2wd 6300 w/cab, 6310 4wd w/cab and 640SL loader, 920 mower, 709 rotary cutter, Farmi JL 601 winch, JD 456 round baler, 752 tedder, 74 and 75 ground driven rakes w/dual position hitch
I had a demo here at my farm of a M8200 w/940 loader, factory cab,and 4wd. Didn't work really great for me. The 4wd engage/disengage was ahrd to move and would bang my and every time I disengaged it. The range lever worked hard too. i liked all of the atachments i would be able to get. I need a tractor for haying as well as working in the woods. It didn't seem to have the power it should. Anyone else have trouble with one?

The M6800, M8200, and M9000 share a lot of pieces, but are considerably difference in HP and wheelbase. The controls were perfectly on my M6800, but like all things, they take a little getting used to. Coming out of 4WD is very easy on dirt or gravel. If you have the tractor on really hard dirt or pavement, the instructions say to work the steering wheel back and forth while pushing/or pulling on the lever. I just drop the loader and it is easy as pie to get it out whenever I forget and drive it in the barn. The range lever is not synchronized (I don't think) so moves when tractor stopped or just barely moving. I found the tractor to be very strong. It has more torque at idle than my first tractor had a full throttle. A lot has been written about these models. Search M6800 or M8200 or M9000 on this board and on the archive. Many features are common, although it took until the 2000 model for the M6800 to catch up to the larger two models. The M6800SD is also available in a Cab model starting with the 2000 models. It has a shorter wheelbase, big tires, and plenty of power for haying. The loader is first rate, but not as strong as the loader for the two larger models. They use a 4 bar linkage and give a little better rollback for the bucket.

Vernon - All 4wd levers are difficult to engage in certain situations and very easy if you follow a certain procedure. The same goes for the range selector. Wen mentioned this, as well, but I'll second and or add to what he said.

You can usually get the tractor out of 4wd easily if you creep very slightly forward and backward while applying light to moderate pressure on the lever. By "very slightly", I mean no more than an inch of ground travel! If it's practical, you can always get it out of 4wd easily by lowering the bucket to the ground, then raising the front wheels just off the ground.

For the range selector, the creep forward and back advice applies the same, except that it often takes only half an inch or so of travel to make all the difference. If you're on a slope, usually all it takes is to put your foot on the brake, hold in the clutch, and release just enough pressure from the brake to let the tractor creep an almost imperceptible amount, again while applying light to moderate pressure on the lever.

The 4WD engagement/disengagement on my M9000 is very easy and smooth, although I've only had the tractor for 11 hours of use. It has proven very easy to shift, much more so than the JD 5310 and the NH TN 65 that I drove. The range shift on mine (and I believe, all the M series) is NOT sync'd so you must stop to change. So far the systems have all worked well. My brush hog, a Hardee Williams 7 ft. cutter is lifted like it is tissue paper, and deposited back to earth as gently as you'd set down your baby (there is a 3pt lift rate controller at the base of the seat.) The M9000 does have the higher capacity hydraulics as a standard, and that is an option on the M8200. The cab is very comfortable, quiet and relatively dust free. There are charcoal filters available for spraying operations.
Good luck with your shopping.
Steve.
