I run mine with the loader on and if need be I can always stop and add rocks for additional ballast. No shortage of them around here!

I have considered getting a front weight set for some of the field work to save wear on the loader and improve visability.

The 7040 will be 4wd with cast wheels, filled tires and mayb a couple wheel weights if needed. It will have a loader but wont be on it most of the time because of the length it adds to the tractor.

With the QA for the bucket it is easy to drop the bucket and not be too concerned about the added length. Not sure if a weight set will fit on the front with a FEL however. Sounds like you have things figured out anyway.

A set of forks for the QA will likely find many uses.

My 7040 has the cast wheels, loaded R1's, and bolt on wheel weights. The rear is ballasted well but the front gets light unless the loader is on, when using some of our larger mounted equipment.

I typically have to add more rear weight to lift anywhere near the loaders upper load limit. (usually just mount the 6' tiller to the 3pt)

I haven't tried it, but when we bought our M8540, we were told the weights would not work with the FEL. I may have my son fab something up to add a little weight if needed. We use a pull type cutter, so the weight has not been an issue so far.
