M7040 and Rhino Turbo 96

Thanks again for all the input! At this point, I have spent a little time on the tractor with the cutter attached. With the FEL on the tractor the cutter doesn't seem too heavy at all. However, in the mountains I will want to take the FEL off to mow. I did just get the front tires back from being foam filled and they are HEAVY! In the process of taking off the front tires I discovered they were liquid filled. That led me to check the rears and sure enough they are filled also! The seller never even mentioned it. That explains why it was so much heavier than I expected when I loaded it up.

Looking into getting some suitcase weights that I could put on the front to mow and then move to the rear for heavy FEL work. I would really like the Heavy Hitch, but it looks like that is set up for JD suitcase weights. I think I can pick up some used JD weights easier than Kubota weights, but how do I make those work on the front without fabrication?

It looks like Ovrszd runs JD weights on the front of his M9540. Anyone else doing this? Is there a bolt on solution?

EDIT: I will post some pics soon!
The LA1153 has an option for a weight bracket. ~$500. You could probably make something if you have welder.

Just try it out with the loader off. I could run the 2wd M6800 just a couple weights. The M7040 has the weight of the 4wd, the loader frame, and you have the foam filled tires. You may be good enough without ballast weight. Now I wasn't running in mountains, but not flat ground either.

curious as to why you want to remove fel for mowing. if visibility is a problem, why not raise or remove bucket?

Me too big bubba. I keep my loader and bucket on, especially when I want to work steep ground.

I wonder what the blade tip speed is at 540 pto rpm? At least there's only 1 gearbox instead of 3 on 2 spindle cutter to contend with

That Brown would be one more heavy cutter. I'm looking at a semi mount Bush Hog 2010 to run behind my Workmaster 50 and Ford 4610 SU. At 2K pounds I only want either a pull or semi mount.

Some of the trails to get to the meadows are pretty tight. The FEL will make access to some of them more of a PIA, but I am sure it can be done. Maybe leaving the FEL attached is the best option. I am sure I will learn what's gonna work best as I get to know the tractor. Hauling it out to the mountain in July.

Are you aware there are two positions on the lower 3 pt arms for the lift links to attach to?

They are close together. One hole gives the ability to lift heavier weight at the expense of a bit of height loss.

The FEL on a M7040 has the same ability with the lift arms of the loader. More lifting strength or more lifting height.
