Please explain if cutter is operated in semi-integral configuration that the front of cutter will be skidding on ground. Skidding or not would be determined by cutting height & operating cutter with or without center link attached shouldn't affect cutting height. Cutting height of frt of cutter is affected by height of 3 pt draft arms not center link.

My mistake -- you are of course right. I was racing thru too many things at once when I wrote that. Will you have hydraulics in place to get the cutter up off the ground for transport in the semi-integral mode ?

Some cutters have a hyd cylinder that causes rear wheels to pivot raising rear of cutter while 3 pt controls height of frt of cutter. My neighbor has a JD MX8 semi-integral cutter that's equipped with a hyd cylinder for rear axle

Bingo.

I once owned a Woods MDS 1260 10.5' fully mounted HD cutter with hydraulically adjustable tail wheels. For multiple reasons I have since sold this mower.

The ground clearance of the front of such cutters is established by the position control of the lift arms.

The ground clearance of the rear of such cutters is established by the hydraulic cylinder controlling the tail wheels.

Like most, I determined how I wished my mower to cut, set the position control stop for the lift arms and installed cylinder stops on the tail wheel hydraulic cylinder to set the tail wheel position.

Worked satisfactorily in most conditions.

Most such mowers are being or have been replaced with bat wing mowers, and I am currently shopping for a 15' BW.

I run a 10' bush hog weighting around 2000# on a M7040HD with FEL and have had no problems. I typically run it semi mounted (back bone not attached) when cutting. This takes a lot of weight off 3pt hitch. When transporting with full weight on tractor the front is a little lite. FEL provides plenty of ballast though. I ran this cutter on a M6800 2wd before getting the M7040. I had 2 front weights but could have used more. This cutter has actual ball bearing in the tail wheel hubs so it can run the tail wheels no problem and that allows me to take a lot of weight off the tractor.

My cutter does not have hydraulic cylinders for tail wheel height adjustment. It has turnbuckles. I run this cutter high enough that I don't have issues just lifting the front to get around the fields. I could easily drop cylinders in but haven't had a need to do so.

Hey 7722 -- is that a 10ft single rotor hog or a bat wing ?

10ft cutters are normally rigid deck, dual spindle.

As he described, he's using it as a semi mount when cutting. Then picks it up and carries it as a 3pt mount when transporting. I do that sometimes with mine.

Thanks again for all the input! At this point, I have spent a little time on the tractor with the cutter attached. With the FEL on the tractor the cutter doesn't seem too heavy at all. However, in the mountains I will want to take the FEL off to mow. I did just get the front tires back from being foam filled and they are HEAVY! In the process of taking off the front tires I discovered they were liquid filled. That led me to check the rears and sure enough they are filled also! The seller never even mentioned it. That explains why it was so much heavier than I expected when I loaded it up.

Looking into getting some suitcase weights that I could put on the front to mow and then move to the rear for heavy FEL work. I would really like the Heavy Hitch, but it looks like that is set up for JD suitcase weights. I think I can pick up some used JD weights easier than Kubota weights, but how do I make those work on the front without fabrication?

It looks like Ovrszd runs JD weights on the front of his M9540. Anyone else doing this? Is there a bolt on solution?

EDIT: I will post some pics soon!

Agreed.

Never heard of any single spindle cutters larger than 7'.
