Tractor
Kubota M6800HD
I am looking at perhaps purchasing a 2001 FWD M5700HD with a loader and 1725 hrs on it. It runs great but when standing behind it I can hear a slight knock. Is that a normal sound coming from the hydraulic pump or something that indicates I shouldn't buy this tractor. It is a little rough cosmetically and the 3 point hitch does not rise as fast as it does on my old Massey. The price is 18500, is that about right for that tractor?

Thanks, if it is a normal sound what is it that is that is knocking? I have been looking on TractorHouse, I prefer the M6800 but there are none near me and I would have to pay quite a bit to have one shipped. They are also about $4000 more.

Noises are hard to figure from a distance. There is nothing in the hydraulics that should be knocking. Sometimes 3-cylinder diesel engines make some clatter - but the M5700 has a 5-cylinder that's usually smoother than that - "knocking" is not expected. If you speed up the engine is the knock louder as it speeds up? Is the noise there whether cold or warmed up? I'd be cautious - especially if the tractor looks like it's had a hard life. Get a truck diesel mechanic to go listen to it with you - he may say it sounds ok - but maybe not.
