M5040 Loader Joystick failure

Thanks @Dave M7040 - it ended up being even simpler than that. The cotter pin and clevis pin had simply broken or fallen out where the cables meet the valve. For now I replaced it with a bolt and tested it, and everything is working as expected. I ordered a replacement pin. Everything else was tight and seemed to be aligned

Thanks for advising what you found. It helps everyone learn. All too often someone gets a solution and then just disappears.
