I bought a '95 M4700 a few months back. It appears to be very sound mechaically.

Yesterday, I was traveling in High range, stopped to shift into Low. It was very hard to shift. The lever stopped sort of between H & L. When I released the clutch, I was traveling in Low. I can't get it to shift to/from L,H,N,or R.

The gears shift fine. Fluid is correct level and new ( I changed it when I bought the tractor).

Any ideas on what to check?

Are you in 4 wheel drive? Sometimes that will bind up the tranny and make it difficult to get out of gear. Also, try rocking forward and back while shifting out of gear.

I should have noted this one is 2wd.

I did try letting her roll & rocking. Didn't help.

OK, found the culprit. Range shifter had slipped out of place. Popped it back in, everything good.

New problem. Ran tractor mowing this morning. Stopped for 30 minutes or so. Now it won't start. Lights work, etc.. PTO disengaged. Range and gears shifter in Neutral. Acts like it is in gear, or PTO engaged though.

Ideas?

With my Kubota I have to push the clutch in before it will start. Not sure about the M. Also, sometimes the seat sensor goes bad or the wires get pinched and it thinks nobody is on the seat. Check those areas.

I used to have an M4700 and it did that a number of times.

Clutch has to be in. Beyond that, check all the interlocks.

M4700 is a good tractor.
