The new engines definitely smell different. Whether it's worse or better depends on your senses I suppose. If you're around diesel equipment long enough you can become a real connoisseur.

If there is enough antifreeze in the cylinders to cause that smell, it should be obvious looking at the reservoir level dropping over time. I'd also check the oil and look for that cream+coffee appearance. Together those would all be clues.

Welcome to the world of Tier 4 diesel engines. Obviously, you are sensitive to the smell of oxidized exhaust. I suggest getting rid of your new steed and buying a used Pre 4 emissions diesel. Only way to get around the non stink, stink.

Me, I'll never buy a T4 compliant diesel. The whole emissions thing with diesel engines is a joke in my view.

I have a sweet odor from my 1988 B2150 4 cyl Kubota. It does not show up until the machine is warm and been under load for a while. Really "pleasant" rather than irritating but also peculiar. Has gone on for MANY years and not related to antifreeze overflow or getting into cylinders. Yours has the smell immediately so obviously a different mechanism.

As for your 3310, I think your best solution is to reroute the exhaust pipe which is relatively inexpensive and a permanent solution. My larger Massey 2660 is a low profile and routes exhaust out under the rear, very similar to the old 1950's Fords and Fergusons.

88 is no emissions hardware at all. Just a road draft tube and you may be smelling hot lube oil. Mine do that, especially just after an oil change.

Hi, thanks, It's not coolant, the level has not changed and I've encountered that issue before. What's odd is that it happens immediately even on a cold engine. The exhaust pipe is not even warm. Start up after sitting 24 hours, immediate smell then as long as it runs. Hopefully it will get better over time. thanks

I see no evidence of a head gasket failure or coolant being burned. Hopefully it will get better over time.
