I know there is an option for a 9" bucket, anyone seen a smaller bucket that can be used for trenching?

Depending on your soil, a bucket narrower than 9" can pack full and render it useless. If you have any clay, you will get one pass before you have to get off and use a shovel to clear the bucket.

You could try spraying the bucket with Fluid Film. I have lots of clay and it helped.

Hopefully, more attachments will become available for our tractors. I think a ripper tooth for the backhoe would be great for stump removal. I see they have them for Kubota and John Deere so far.

Its been a few years, but LS did not have anything smaller than the 9" bucket.

I believe the boom is wider than 6", so the digging depth would be limited with the 6" bucket.

If you are digging in dirt that sticks in the bucket you can install small chains crossing the bucket so they fall into the bucket when positioned to dig but when bucket is rolled back to dump the chains tighten pulling the dirt out. Works on clay here well.

Brotek probably has a ripper tooth that will fit. If not they will make one for you. They didn't list a ripper tooth for my Boomer 20 but it is the same backhoe as a MF CB65 (which they make a ripper for) so it fit perfectly. I used the ripper for trenching 250 feet to lay some cable and it worked great. I know that the boomer 20,24,and 25 are the same tractor as the LS so possibly the backhoes are the same as well.

Nice looking ripper. How big of a mess does it make? Can it actually make a narrow trench or does it close back up like using a sub-soiler?

I only trenched about 8 to 10 inches deep. I dug down with the hook to loosen the soil then while the ripper was still in the ground I curled the ripper till it was perpendicular with the ground and used a lifting and sideways motion to clean out the trench. It worked very well but is kinda hard to describe. They also make trencher wings that bolt onto the ripper to clear a wider path but I did not buy them. I actually got this ripper for tearing out roots when removing stumps.

Thanks. I need trenches on occasion but also want to cut the roots on tree stumps. Sounds like good choice for a multi-tool.
