LS J2020H Not Starting

I'd still take it to a dealer. Unless the dealer has already looked at it and diagnosed it as a glow plugs. And I still find it hard to believe glow plugs wouldn't be considered part of the power train.
I would have thought that the front drive shaft would be part of the powertrain but it wasn't covered. They said all external parts are not covered.

Rarely are electrical items (think spark plugs )covered under powertrain warranty or any other warranty other than the original bumper to bumper time period.

I would look further into the battery, grounding and glow plugs as fault.

Called a different dealer.. same story..

This one was very helpful.. he suggested that i test each one for getting hot enough.. he said if one isnt working its enough to hold the engine back from starting. I will say he was very helpful. so looks like I will be pullling them out again today..

the LS parts books has them listed as part #40109514 and mitsubishi has them as 32A66-03100 is there a cheaper alternative to LSs $45.73 each??

Finally found a good substitute for the $47 glow plugs. I put them in and it fired right up.

Thanks for all of the replies. This forum is very helpful.

I removed the glow plugs last night they all seem to be good but had a fair amount of carbon (I think) build up on them.View attachment 399378

I cleaned them off and put them back in.. I then checked the volts they were getting (turning the key backwards with each one). they are all getting 12.9 volts. Only thing I didnt do is attach leads to them while in a vice to see if they are actually working. I figured with me checking the resistance and power to each plug that they are working properly and that the relay is working, as it should, due to the meter reading zero when the key is in the "off" position.

Now I will say i had to really scratch through the carbon to get a good connection while checking the resistance.

When you had the glow plugs out is when you should read them with an ohm meter. If they read 0 they are shorted and not working. Glad you found a replacement set.
