Looking to buy here soon. Have narrowed my choices to a LS 5030 or a Mahindra 6530. What do you think the best is for a smaller farm? What price range should they be in?

You might be better to post on the L.S. Tractor forum. Personally, I've owned the 5030 in the LongAgribusiness 530 model for 7 years. It has been a great tractor and very dependable. It uses about 2 gallons of fuel per hour under load. I was running a 72 inch rotary tiller behind it, but could feel the power train, so I switched to a 66 inch offset. Works much better. Pulls a 12 foot disc anywhere. Only gripe I found was that the draft control is not worth much. Will only pull 2- 14 inch bottoms. Rear tires are loaded. Has the power, not the traction. Mahindra makes good tractors too. One word of advise, if it made in India, stay away from it.

I have a U-5030 with 50 plus hours on the meter.
The tractor has no problem with power, finish,
ease of handling, or any thing else. I have looked at Mahindra's and they are not bad.
They are not as nice on the finish side and I also
do no like India made machines.

May I ask why you guys are recommending to stay away from tractors made in India? Some of them are very good machines. They all are not economy tractors. ;)

You know that these are 2 different types of machines don't you?
The LS is more of a deluxe tractor, about 25% less horse power, weighs 4600lbs. 16x16 tranny.
The Mahindra is 6300lbs and only has an 8x8 tranny, but is a real work horse.

Two different animals.

The thing with India made machines is only my feelings from some
things I have seen. They are strong in the weight department that
is for sure, all that cast.
I don't get 25% horse power advanage between 57 and 65.
I would not go turbo for only eight more horses but with the
extra weight it may need it.

I would also ask why you are comparing a 65 Hp Mahindra to a 5030 LS model. The LS P 7010 with 63 PTO HP is more nearly the size tractor in HP, weight (6600 #) and price to compare to Mahindra.

That is true. The two should not go head to head.
The P-7010 would be a much more fair comparsion
to the 6530.
Scott said he wanted a tractor for a small farm.
The U-5030 would fill the bill even running a
small size round bailer there would be no problem.
If he feels he my need more weight and power
the 7010 would be hard to beat.
I can't think the 6530 and the 5030 would be
even close in price.

When I bought my LS P7010 C model last year, it just so happened that the dealer sold Mahindra and LS. There was really no comparison to the fit and finish of the two tractors but the high end way it is equipped but with a value pricing was the real winner for LS over all other brands. THe P 7010 Cab model is really loaded with extras that some other brands dont even offer. The come standard with AC/Heat and Sony stereo system, telescopic links on the lift arm, 20F/20R gear transmission with creeper gear that is guaranteed to get you a speed that you can use for any applicationand if you want power shift just step up to the 7030 for just a bit more money and lots more HP. I like the auto lift feature that allows you to lift the 3PH and return it to a preset position without moving the lift lever also (didnt see that option on any other tractor) and the switch that can turn the PTO from auto to manual plus the ground engageing PTO switch for use in tilling and other applications. Rear opening window, front and rear windshield wipers and washers is also a good option that is not on all cab models. Check the LS website for the full list of standard options. Oh and the 3 speed PTO is nice also and all at a great price. I think they may have gained a few dollars in 2011 but I got mine for $35,500 out the door delivered to my driveway with FEL and CAB and true 0% financing for 24 months. No tacked on price for the 0% financing like most of the other. The price quoted for cash was same as 0% financing. Lots of folks say I got a super deal, but truthfully I didnt haggle. I asked for the best price and told them I needed it the next day and what could they do.
