Lowe's Military Discount

Well you can put that sentiment to rest... not everyone can serve at the 'pointy end'. The mere fact that you signed on, not knowing where you'd be sent and under what conditions, is more than enough in anyone's book. If these companies are offering then there is no embarrassment in humbly accepting.

I completely agree.

Same here. In fact, I just got the paperwork to fill out yesterday for the DD-214 card. Need to set down, fill out the forms and send them to St Louis. Actually I never felt that I deserved a "military discount" since i never saw combat.....just my feelings in the matter.

Oh, forgot one last question Mike. How many funerals of military veterans have you sang at??? Now who's serving. :)

Everyone who served in the military, no matter the capacity, and meets the requirements to obtain a "military discount" deserves the discount. Otherwise the discount wouldn't be available to them.

Thanks for your insight gents and I sort of agree, but it seems that those non-combat vets....oh well....I can't explain it. The same idea applies to other benefits, such as medical and drugs. I've been blessed with good health and a decent income even into retirement. I don't feel like the American People owe me (in particular) anything. And "yes" i do sing in a choir at many a veterans' funeral. It's and honor to serve our Country and all its people. Heck, I gonna cry......Let's get outside to work.....the sun is shining ..............Yeah!!!

Cheers,
Mike

I have not served, but I would have if I had been called. It seems that school, marriage, kids and my age precluded me from serving in Vietnam, but I do admire all who served honorably in what ever capacity. If you are eligible for a military discount, please take it! With my blessing! Thanks for your service!

Hmm. They didn't issue me a card of any kind. Just registered my phone number after displaying a military ID. Now just recite my phone number. I'll ask next time I'm there.

If you're signed up for MyLowes, there is a place to request a card be mailed to you. I forget where it is, but you have to be signed in to your account. If you have the Mil Discount activated, it's automatic when the card is scanned.

I grew up around a lot of military... the SF Bay Area was at one time a Hub of military... lots of kids I went to school with had military parents that worked at the Oak Knoll Naval Hospital...

As a kid... I always noticed a subtle difference between those that saw action and those that didn't... and I believe it was self imposed coming from the mind of a kid.

Dad and Uncle served and Dad was on the way to the Pacific theater when Japan surrendered... his military records show his WWII service but he never saw combat and left it at that.

Mom's best friend Lucy served as a Marine... didn't know they had women Marines almost 70 years ago... sweetest old lady you ever met but only later in life did I realize her service... and even later did I realize the first woman marine goes back to 1918.

My first job after college was at a manufacturing plant... the plant was very proud of hiring vets... it was important to them...

Lowes issues their own card and it comes with a couple of small ones to attach to keychains or stick on other cards.

Nobody needs a Lowe's card for the veterans discount!
Only veteran's phone number on file, (and most recently at some Lowe's apparently, a military ID card of some sort, to back up that you are actually the veteran with the phone number on file).
I know a cheater, and it does pi-- me off !!!

Every time I am thanked for my service, I thank the person talking to me. Very, very important.

I was First Sergeant of an Army Postal (mail) Company for 20 years. Deployed all or part of the Company to Desert Storm, Haiti, Bosnia, Kosovo, Iraq and Afghanistan. I have saw first hand the value of civilian support.

True story. Christmas eve 1990. In a desert tent camp with 1st Armored Division. Late evening a Soldier entered the postal tent. I asked if I could help him. He said he was expecting some mail from home but it didn't arrive for mail call. Asked me when the next mail truck would arrive. I told him would be the next afternoon. He thanked me and started to leave. I said wait a minute, I have some Any Soldier mail. That's mail sent by civilians into the area with "Any Soldier" on the parcel.

I always kept a small stash of letters and boxes under the counter. I grabbed a box and handed it to him. He thanked me as he read the address. He looked up with a huge smile on his as he said "these people are from my hometown. I know them!!!"

Never under estimate the value of civilian support. :)

Clearly the rules are changing, and in some locations faster than others. Others experiences do not match yours.

Post #14 and #24 in this thread and any others that are reporting the need for a MyLowes card to verify eligibility for their military discount. This information is not in agreement with your contention that nobody needs a Lowe’s card to get a military discount.

I guess it varies on the store and the quality of the help...I love my local Ace because they have a generally good 'benchstock' section with the small fasteners and do-dads; they try to be helpful even if they have no idea what I'm talking about (!) and there's plenty of staff. Lowes is about 40 minutes away to the east, and Home Depot about 40 minutes away to the west. Having bought a place with no garage or barn, and a fairly horrible kitchen means 3 good sized projects to juggle....so I make the Lowes run frequently.

And mostly because of the mil discount; being a vet ( but not a retiree) means HD would only discount on certain days, AND a DD214 wasn't't good enough - needed a VA ID card!!! Lowes was a lot easier - signed up with the DD214 and now it's just the phone # at the checkout. And 10% mounts up - with the 3 projects at hand, I'll hand them 50k this year ( kitchen cabs ordered yesterday, at a list price around 16K)..sorry, Home Depot, you used to be my fave, but no more!

Well, 'such as' the Lowe's website:

https://www.lowes.com/l/in-store-services.html#MilitaryDiscountProgram

To receive the Everyday 10% Military Discount, you must:

Be currently serving in or a veteran of the US armed forces or be the immediate family member.

Once the service member signs up for the discount program on Lowes.com, it will be linked to a MyLowe's card that may also be used by immediate family.

and

Enroll in the program online. Lowe's uses a trusted third party to verify eligibility status for online enrollment and may require additional documentation or proof of eligibility.

My experience at the local Lowe's : No My Lowe's card, no discount.
