John -- You and I both served in the Corps, so have something in common. While I may disagree with you now and then, those disagreements will always be civil because of that shared bond.

But I think in America today there is more that separates us than that which unites us. And I can't help but think that is at least one source of the attitude you are talking about. Heck, even the movie theaters are failing because folks want to watch stuff in the privacy of their own homes!

So very true Pete. There is simply no call for the vitriol and outright nastiness displayed by some people. There are ways to get ones point across in a civil manner.

Yes, some folks just can’t handle it and would run you out of town or evict you from the web page if they could. I reckon you could call these kinds of folks “Web Tyrants”. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

You and I could civilly discuss politics and religion. I have no idea what values your personal philosophy consists of, but you exhibit the communication skills of one who has a firm grasp of reality and the ability to not take yourself too seriously. So even if you disagree with someone’s position on what are the best raw materials from which to manufacture widgets, you would have fun with the discussion and feel no need to hurl personal insults.

It is interesting sometimes when the puddin’ gets stirred and the emotion driven folks get their drawers all in a knot over a subject as benign as tractors, trucks, and sporting activities. Good thing we don’t have a politics forum here.

Its the internet how can you offend me. You cant snatch my cold beverage from my hand and thats the only way I could be offended. I still think it was hilarious. (huntng Costs) I knew you were joking around. I guess some people take things to seriously, its just internet. Alot of people these days worry about being to PC (lawsuits I guess) I think everyone needs a little humor to lighten up. There is more stuff going on in this world to worry about. I was LMAO at that post cause it does have some truth to it /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif Just thinking about it got me laughing again. Keep up the good humor CBF.

Mr. Junkman Sir,

Pardon me for interjecting, but I think Vin was referring to these “offended” folks who would do well to learn to laugh at themselves a little instead of getting all riled up over what basically adds up to nothing serious in the grand scheme of life. You know...those web tyrant guys who would like to chase you off into the sunset with the good guys. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Cityboy and TonyV; You guys are pretty well right on the money. Most of us pride ourselves in the ability to communicate halfway rationally. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

But, there is a segment on this board that like to poke at others in not too nice ways. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif I suspect that there have even been times when people have intentionally misled others by somewhat passing themselves off as someone else. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif I always try in my posts to use humour, albeit my own brand, and use the little faces. I don't use them to be cute, rather to let others in on that it's time to laugh or whatever. Kinda like the canned laughter on those second rate sitcoms. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

There is also an old Scottish saying, it has to be Scottish, it makes sense, If ya kinna stan the het, get outa the kitchen. Or something like that. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Numbers of people in this catagory are relative to the numbers of folks looking to be offenSIVE.

Not a lot of difference in my book.

It seems like we have become the “culture of the offended”.

Thoughts? Comments?

I think that people neither look to be offensive or offended, but get into a forum to relax, enjoy some conversation, enjoys some pics, and other people's company surrrounding a common interest.

Maybe their job is extra stressful, spousal problems, personal problems that surround the majority of us, and have compounded with the global problems of today. Creating a society that is even more stressed that previous decades. I can personally attest to this, as my life is much more stressful now than even 2 years ago, and for the reasons above.

So now you have a stressed audience in the forums that take a seemingly innocent comment and they blow up. Like the straw that broke tha camel's back. I've often caught myself replying in a nasty way to comments that really are pointless with more pointless jabbing comments. Like arguing about something in a F150 forum (guilty as charged) that basically became a bunch of bickering /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif To be honestly neither of us were right or wrong, but the the oppposing victim became a focal point of my anger. Sometimes you need to stand back and look at the big picture. Does it matter that somebody XX miles away from you thinks differently?

I'd be pretty curious to find out if others feel the same way about our more stressful lives affecting the way we socialize. What do you guys think?

That was absolutely on point. In a lot of internet communities CityBoyFarmer would be branded a "troll". This is the third thread he has started with the intention of getting people to "rise to his bait". When they do, he jumps in saying that they misunderstood his intentions. I agree, they thought he was attacking hunting. I don't. I think he was trying to stir the pot!

I am not a hunter, and never have been. I grew up in an area where that made me an outsider. Most of my friends and their fathers took a deer every year. But my dad had enough of shooting growing up in the Depression and then more in the service. Whether or not I see the humor in or agree with CBF's two posts, it is quite ridiculous of him to post a thread like that in a collection of mostly rural people and then call them "thin-skinned" when they take offense. With now going on 12 pages on the subject, I am pretty sure that CBF got exactly what he wanted.

Any of you guys that do hunt and are in SW MO or NW AR -- I truly love venison sausage.

Jeff,

You are wrong in your assumptions. However, you have the right to be wrong.

I knew there would be those who would make an issue of the second post because they took issue with the first post, but, I thought it was funny, as most people here did and chose to post it anyway.

Stop a minute and consider what you choose to become upset about. It is a conscious choice that each individual makes. You have chosen to make an assumption that I am a troll and simply looking to stir the pot. Believe what you wish.

What you choose to allow to upset you says a great deal about you as an individual.

Incidentally, I did get exactly what I wanted from those that actually got it and chose to see the humor.

Some chose to see it otherwise and allowed themselves to become upset and offended over a post that has no effect upon their life whatsoever. Again, your response is your individual choice.

I think that SOME of what might be going on here is that language is more than just words. There are facial expressions and tones that vary with meanings. These are obviously impossible to translate over the web. Punctuation and spelling are also part of the written language. If you were to put a punctuation in the wrong place the meaning of the statement changes. Kind of like putting the decimal in the wrong place on the spread sheet. The little faces help but they are not always used by posters.
O.K., Do you all get it now?!!!!!!! Give it a rest. You all really upset me today!!!! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

That you worried and fretted...
And got so upsetted....
Then became so offended...
Till all logic upended...
Now with all of this said...
In a humorous thread...
It makes me quite curious...
Why take oneself so serious???
