My family and i are in the market for a new trailer for the farm. We will be using the trailer to haul a skid steer around, also using it for building materials, hay and anything else we want to use it for.

What i am looking for is a goose neck trailer, approx 28 feet. I was thinking dualls on tandem axles. The skid steer i have is 10,000 pounds by it selfs. I also want to be able to haul more then 5 round bales at a time on the trailer. I was thinking something around the 20,000 pound range.

The question i have is, what type of goose neck trailer would be best. Also wanting a good heavy rub rail all the way around the deck. What do you guys like the most. Flip up ramps, dove tails, take off ramps, tilts?

I was thinking a tilt trailer would be best. Then i would always have a flat deck to load what ever i want, no worry about bending ramps ect ect. Any one know of a company that makes a trailer that is in the 20k range that is a tilt bed?

I'm not one for the tilts, to me it's just another thing to go wrong. Not sure you'd want a lot of weight all the way on the back of it either. If it were me I'd get a 28' + 5' dove tail (33' total) and flip up ramps. You may want to look into the hydraulic dovetail options as well - they are expensive, but nice. Same goes with not wanting a lot of weight on the end of them either.

Does the dove tail fold up flat or does it stay straight out the back. I would think, that dove tail would have more things to go wrong then a tilt bed trailer that doesnt have a pump. I borrowed a trailer that had a tilt bed and it just had a cylinder where the hose went to both ports. Just to slow down the bed when it open or closed.

Give the guys at Allprowest.com a call. I have gotten a couple trailers from them. Happy with the price and product. There is a company out there that makes a dove tail that lifts up manually to create a flat tail, nothing to go wrong there.

My dump trailer was a SureTrac. Very well built, would certainly consider there gooseneck any day.

Well since you mentioned, I just bought a Sure-Trac as well, though mine's a bumper pull. I prefer the GN, but need to haul it behind a SUV as well.

The standard dove tail (which I prefer) has no moving or mechanical parts whatsoever. It's just a bend before the ramps start so you can get equipment on the trailer easier. There's 5' of 'unusuable' space, but it's by far the sturdiest and most bullet proof option.

The hydraulic dovetail would have more to go wrong with. I think it's neat, but I'd never get one as they would cost far too much.

I really like that gooseneck tilt. I like that with the 20,000 pound trailer i would have 13,000 pounds of capacity. wolfpack2 would you mind sending me a pm of what your trailer cost you.

The thing is at some point i may or may use the trailer to haul a car or something else with low ground clearance. I feel the tilt just provides me with more options.
