Grant money may be a possibility, we are 501C. We normally try to avoid taking anything from the government though.

Lot of good suggestions and things to think about. Thanks for the replies.

There are private monies out there and people who will donate to good causes especially to a 501c that holds the money in trust. I personally know someone who raised $22k for a dog's hip surgery. Just took some letter writing and a few phone calls. Money for surgery is more than covered and the remainder is held in trust for other pooches. I would pray on it but I still wouldn't go out to a storm response with old equipment or volunteers that don't have the necessary skills. Someone could get hurt real bad or make a situation worse.. my .02.

We'll explore some areas for donations. We've been very blessed in that whenever we have determined a need for equipment, the money has always been there. May have come from folks that we don't know, just know about the ministry but its been there.

We are very careful about the training. We put on the trainings for the Baptist Men in NC for safety for Chainsaw, Mudout and Temporary Roof Repair. If you haven't been trained on chainsaw or the other equipment, you get to drag brush until you are trained. We all have families and jobs to go back to, so we are very careful about who does what and how its done.

Sounds like you are doing things right. I believe the good Lord will provide when there is a need. To help nudge the Lord a little, I would settle on what you need and want..Get that part down and I bet you will find what you are looking for. The supernatural has a way of fulfilling the needs of those in faith.

I would concentrate on getting a "current" style chipper, and if I were in your position, (as it appears you are doing from your posting) I would just continually put out the word to those in the area that would have a good used machine that was time to upgrade.

My thoughts would be government bodies such as city and county, large tree service and ROW clearance guys and manufacturers of the equipment itself.

Explain your mission to them (which sounds admirable too me) and see if they cannot help you along your way.

I absolutely WOULD NOT run an old, out of date machine, they did not have many of the safety features that the newer machines do, and will be more finicky to keep running.

Nothing would turn a good deed bad then having someone maimed or killed because of an out of date machine.

Good luck in your search, I hope you find one.
