Looking at new truck

I realize bigs tires are popular... well, at least until sticker shock sets in when it is time to replace them.

My trucks all run LTX M/S/235/75R15 and some of the larger sizes are double what I use...

interesting looking it up again is appears in 05 18" was standard on 350 and in 06 they reverted back to 17" with 18"/20" as options

2005 was the only year that SRW F350's came with 18's (Dually still got 17's)

If I were a betting man, I'd say the tire manufacturer that Ford had a contract with didn't make a 17" tire that met the payload requirements at the time of the new body & suspension changes in '05. I'm not spending the time to research it though...

no 05+ ford F250/350 had 16" rims, 16" rims wouldn't clear the calipers. 17" were as small as you could go 18" were an option

No sir. My 2006 F350 SRW 6.0L 4x4 has 18" aluminum wheels, 3.73 gears, disc brakes all around, and 11,500# gvwr.

No sir what? 17" steelies were standard in 2006. 18's were an option.
