Looking at a Case 580B

Hi I have a case 580B backhoe serial # 526816 .It will not move forward no power.It will go fine in reveres thur all four gears.When I drain all fuid noticed water in oil change filers and new oil no help.From what I have read I think I need a rebuild power shuttle on mine.Does anyone have a manual showing how to spilt this tractor I would like to buy It from you.I found a case dealer that will rebuild the shuttle for 1800.00.They want 3500.00 to split and install it.I dont think the tractor is worth 6000. but would spend the 2000 for a rebuild shuttle if I can do the splitting. I would find another mechanic. That sounds VERY high.

Thanks you look like my kind of guy ride bikes and bow hunt. I am checking for more tractor mech.In this area.I am thinking of trying to spit it with a friends help but I want to find a manual showing how to spit it.I bought a cd on ebay but it is worthless cant read it is so small with no details looking for a real service manual. thanks sexie tractor

I think based on local prices you are looking at like $8K-$12K for a solid older BH. Some Cases have a torque converter set up I have been told that slip when hot I have been told. I would up with a 1983 JD 310B. May have overpaid but after doing a lot of clearning ground it seems solid.

I do think one has to draw a line in the sand and sell for scrap if needs cost too much.

Thanks I am still looking for a better quote on labor if I can find a manual I have a friend who will help me remove the shuttle.Then I will take it to a shop for rebuild.
