Hi I found a Long Tractor for sale near by but have/inquiring questions/advise before i think about making an offer. I spoke with the guy briefly about it and its a 1989 73HP diesel with loader, 4WD, and canopy Front tires are new and rear tires are loaded. He said it has about 1000hrs on it...he said when he purchased it after 50 hrs. the meter stopped working... so I am not to sure if he's pullin' my leg as far as honest hours but he did claim he put roughly 300-400 on it when he bought it... I did not ask him what model maybe somebody off the top of their head would know by engine size and year. Also If any one could give me some advise on what to look for on these tractors and what a reasonable price would be for this tractor. Thank you.:)

Maybe a 2710?

TractorData.com Long 2710 tractor information

I am guessing here, so don't take this to the bank, but I am thinking 12,000 to 14,000 Maybe based on what I am seeing on Tractohouse.

A lot depends on condition.

Only suggestion that I can help you with is perhaps you can check out the website-- TractorData.com Go to other tractors selection. Hopefully you may find some info there that will be useful to you. Good Luck:tractor:

Well it aint 75 horse, and is a somewhat older tractor. Hydraulic flow rate seems low to me if tractordata is right for that size of tractor. 5.7GPM

Fuel usage a little over 4gal/hour.
Maybe About a $5000 TO $6000 tractor if in good shape being 4wd.

Again these are just my thoughts, others may vary, get several opinions if you can.

Thanx James

I'm going to take a look at it tonight after work. I thought it seemed odd that he said it was 73 HP and all I could find was what was listed under tractordata. Think he may have misread the HP on the plate? Or did they make several different upgrades of this model? I will post an update tonight around 8. keep the opinions comin' guys! :D

ok so I got a fair look at it. it is a 610 DTC. I was able to get a good look at the block and it had 1987 which i believe is a casting date, right? It is weaping a little near the bell I couldn't tell if it was coming from there or near what looked like a float bowl. To me it looked like it was leaking from the float and followed the undercarriage down to the lowest point... I stuck my finger in it to take whiff and smelt diesely. I was able to record the serial numbers of the carriage and the block. any ideas how I can make sure if everything is original?

thanx

Unfortunatly I don't know enough to guide you on that, but I would think on that age of tractor, just make sure everything works well, and look at the overall shape it is in and go from there. Perhaps others will weigh in here, or you maybe could find someone locally to help check it out.
Be sure to have an implement on the back and hold it at a raised position with the tractor running, and see if it stays there for while, as my long 2360, had a problem with internal leakage in the 3pt lift cylinder or control, and it "sank" pretty quickly, and position control would lift it back up quickly causing a noticeable oscillation of up and down movement of the 3pt. Check the clutch out pretty good, push into a big pile of dirt with the loader and make sure it will spin the wheels in a low gear and not "slip" the clutch. If it does not spin, it needs to really bog down the engine or even kill it. Not slip the clutch. You may not be able to do all of this, but like any older rig of any kind you got to be careful.
Good luck

thank you james for the advise! as I'm sure you can tell I am a green horn. :) I had him dig a good size pile that has been sitting for a while (grass growing out of it) he took two good size scoops out of it. tires did spin and machine started to bog. so based on what you mentioned clutch still has some life to it right? He did mention that the battery is tired...I haven't looked up the price of a battery of that size...any ideas what it might cost? it fired up nicely and ran well. He said he never had attachments for the 3pt hitch so he never used it....Also mentioned that the PTO has to be engaged for the bucket to work...is this normal? Thanks again for all the advise you have been very helpful. -dan
