cannot login, I get the following message:
We cannot proceed.

We encountered a problem. The reason reported was:

Your username/password was not found. You are not logged in. Please login and try again.

This is not necessarily an error. If you feel this is an error then it could be something as simple as your browser not being set to accept cookies, or your cookie from TractorByNet.com being corrupt or invalid. If you feel this error is a problem with the server then please contact forum@tractorbynet.com and let us know what exactly went wrong so it can be fixed as soon as possible. Otherwise, please use your back button to return to the previous page.

Got an email, with temp p/w, and the above is what I get when I try to edit anything. Now What?

Al, believe me, I can't say the past 8 months have been any fun for me! I had planned on getting an IH Cub this past summer, but all I got was bills, bills and more bills. Those darn things won't buy nuttin!
Muhammad, the following email was rcvd w/temp p/w. Problem is, the IP is totally bogus.
email msg: Someone from the ip address '24.4.252.125' requested a temporary password for the Username 'scruffy' for the website 'TractorByNet.com Discussion Forums'. This is a temporary password that can be used if you have forgotten your original password. If you did not request this, please ignore this message. The temporary password for this Username is -- XxXXxX

Minor problem with that Muhammad, NO COOKIES! Hidden or otherwise. No excessive temp files, no nuttin'. I've got TWO cookies in the system...one from employer, one from ebay. This is the first time to login from building a new computer, loading it up, and initial login attempt...need to login to get the cookie (Chocolate Chip please). Cookies are set to be accepted, temp cookies are set to be accepted. Sent email to explain most recent attempts/corrections etc.

Have you tried other security settings? Will check your e-mail in a bit...

No I haven't, but in checking them, they are the default settings, which is what I had on the old PC....I will try to 'lighten' up a bit, and see what that does.
It's weird that TBN is the only site I am having a problem with.

Muhammad, ALL'S WELL!!! You ain't gonna believe what I found...Somewhere, somehow, one of the loads touched on the system date and changed the year to 2023!! /w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gifNow ain't that a hoot! /w3tcompact/icons/blush.gif Now that I sound like a total dolt, I guess I will crawl off into a hole somewhere!!/w3tcompact/icons/tongue.gif

Hey, Scruffy, glad to hear you got it fixed./w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif I began to wonder about you./w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif I got the Norton SystemWorks yesterday and I've been trying to get it installed and configured. It claims there were a bunch of errors it found and fixed, and one it couldn't fix; something to do with Microsoft's photo software. And I also got their Personal Firewall 2002, but haven't decided whether to install it, since I don't understand it at all.

Scruffy,

After you walked me through how to fix my computer it somehow makes me feel better that even the pros have problems like that. Glad to see you back up and running.

Hmm, I suppose since our cookies expire in 2020, not 2023, it didn't want to store it. /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif That might be why you only had two other cookies, also.

Hi Bird! Yeah, I was beginning to wonder if Muhammad 86'd me or something! Stupid thing to miss (the year), but alls well..../w3tcompact/icons/blush.gif I don't know on the photo software, unless you wanted to cut and paste the details and email them to me, maybe I can figure out what is going on. (I don't think you can do that from one of the popup blocks though) Symantics personal firewall? You've got ZoneAlarm now don't you? ZA has a very good reputation, and I have read reviews that claims it is better than many of the 'commercial' ones. I've no personal experience with it. You could always send it up and I could try it for you! /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

Muhammad, there were only two cookies because one was the ISP, and one was eBay, I was trying to get the third (TBN) at that point, I hadn't gone anywhere else. It was all off of fresh install, on a completely blank WD 30 gig drive, that had just been pulled from my old computer, low level formatted to clean up from WIN ME, loaded with WIN 98SE, IE5.5SR1 (loaded 5.0, but had update on zip drive), 3.5 gigs of other software installed (including all sorts of backed up files/pictures, etc). Fun putting the new computer up and running, then came the /w3tcompact/icons/crazy.gif puzzle. How was I supposed to know TBN's cookies got stale in 2020? /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif Had a friend create an account (he's got 3 IH Cubs), no problem, I logged into his account and got the same results as with my account (from my new computer), that told me the problem was here, but for the life of me, I had no idea what. /w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif
Only TBN, and time sensitive ads on the news were giving ANY type of problems...and I don't care if the ads load or not! It wasn't until Norton's AV flipped its wig this AM that I tumbled onto the problem. (where's my hole?) So simple, such a headache. Well, I'm back, now who's got the coffee? /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif MarkV, I pull my share of oops! That one was not one that I personally did, but I sure didn't catch it! /w3tcompact/icons/blush.gif

You've got ZoneAlarm now don't you?

Beats me. Am I supposed to have it in Windows ME or something? Mostly what I have is confusion./w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

Bird, Check your home email account, as well as your private at TBN. Home one will give active links for what you will need.

Got it! You're amazing. You can diagnose it long distance better than I can sitting in front of it./w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif I know why you had the little problem recently; it was just too danged simple for you; you need something more complicated./w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

Bird, No Sir!!! /w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif I've just had more practice digging out answers to 'user' problems! /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif You could do the same, or better than I, with practice! /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif
