log splitter (gpm)

good morning...my tractor is a DK35 with a creeper,back pto and a belly pto. i`m looking at a log splitter to mount on the 3 point.. i need to know the GPM output. the manual says the main pump puts out 7.8 us gal/min. the specs page that came with it says 12.1 gpm...The log splitter specs says it won`t recomend over 11 gpm.
The splitter is a powerhorse, dual split, 3 point,20 ton and sells for $749.99 at amazon. So,would someone please tell what GPM i have or point me at another good splitter. thank you george

I don't think you'll be sorry if your splitter is fast. I'm pretty sure though the 12.1 gpm includes the powersteering pump, and you'll hopefully see something like the 7.8 gpm out of your remote. Check the relief pressure as well of the tractor and the max pressure for the splitter to be safe.

Also keep in mind that the pump rating should be the maximum output at the engines working RPM, likely something in the 2400-2600 range.

When I'm running my splitter I run the engine at 1600 or so and the splitter is fast enough and there isn't too much noise coming off the engine. I would hate to have to split wood with the engine wound right out, plus you're going to burn more fuel.

thank you both for the input...back to the manuals-i found the pump capacity that says MAIN PUMP 7.8 gal and POWER STEERING PUMP 4.7 gal which would give the 12.1+ the max pressure of the splitter is 11GPM. so it looks like i can use that 20 ton splitter.. maybe the 15 ton would be better???? and run the engine at a lower rpm ?? george

Get the 20 ton...it's the same one I just bought and it works great on my DK40SE. I already split 4-5 cords with it...very pleased.

Btw, I had 10' hoses made up.....9' might actually be better.....10' was a little long.
