No opinion on the 3pt log grapple, (the only grapple I have is the one in my avatar). The Wallenstein looks okay though, other opinions will follow.

I have seen the Wallenstein log grapple first hand at a dealer in Iowa. I
don't know anyone on TBN who has owned or used this one. In my
research, I have come across numerous grapples like this by Valby,
Addington, Brave, Branch, and BeaverSqueezer.

I was going to make one, if it ever got off my 'B' list of projects.

Looks like it would put the load well above the centerline of the rear axle, so it could make for a light front end.

I have skidded logs for many years with with skidding tongs chained to my drawbar. My method is cheap. A medium size skidding tong costs about $50. Plus skidding tongs allow you to lift the butt of the log closer to the center of gravity of the rear axel so your front end is less prone to get light. Skidding tongs will allow you to dedicate more actual lifting performance. The grapple due to its length will compromise your actual lifting capacity. Skidding tongs,however,are a bit slower than 3pt hydralic log grapple. Ya have to get off the tractor to set the dogs into the trunk before lifting.

A hydralic grapple might be worth the money if you were skidding a massive quantity of logs on any given day. If you are just moving a few logs a day. Not worth the money or degrade in lifting capacity.

I've been using this home made unit for many years. It's not hi teck but it only cost about $10 to build.

I put this together. It works well and with the winch frame being the fulcrum for the toplink I am able to touch the ground and pick the tongs or whatever I hang on the hook quite high. I only pick it as high as needed for stability.
I can also take the arm off and just use the standard toplink. It has a couple of hooks on it for chains and also a standard reciever for towing.

Posted this sometime back, just thought it might be an idea if you haven't seen it. Of course the winch is an opt, I had one so incorporated it.

Looks like it would work great with some weight added to the front of the tractor. My uncle has used a pole boom with logging tongs for as long as I can remember.

I am sure the choice of product name was quite intentional.....and
unforgettable.

This one has a power rotate function.

That's a sort of in between product. If you got the tongs on the balance point/middle, you could put a log on a low trailer perhaps. Not as rugged as a regular skidding set up. There is no side to side rotate either.

What would you try to accomplish with it that something much cheaper like ToadHill's homemade rig won't do, for example?
