Locking Rear Differential on BX2670?

Does the Kubota BX2670 have a locking rear differential?

yes there is. its right next to the mow height dail. you can see the lever clearly in the bx70 series brochure online. i see it fails to mention it has a diff lock anywhere though. I love using my bx diff lock when needed

Yes, very handy to slip your heel back on it. Becomes old hat quickly working on slopes.

My wife thought she was stuck crossing a ditch at an angle. Wanted me to push... no way! I put her foot on that little pedal, and told her to back up, yer not stuck. Her eyes got real big... but wasn't stuck anymore!

Really? I think I do it often when spinning going up a hill. It takes a second to engage but I don't feel any grinding or mashing.

David, I believe the Kubota owner's manual for my BX2670 makes the same statement . . . but I still wonder why?

If one wheel is spinning on the BXs while the opposite wheel is stopped the pin and the housing it resides in has been known to break and the pieces have also been known to jam between the differential gear set and the outer housing, usually knocking a hole in it or cracking the housing with large repair costs.

If you use the differential lock, bring all motion to a stop, press lock and while holding lock down operate hydro pedal and rotate the wheel slowly until you feel the locking lever to drop slightly and then continue with it depressed until you are unstuck.

Thanks for the tip and the info about differential lock hazards. Never had any idea the transmission could self-destruct in that manner.

I'll pay really close attention before engaging the differential lock!

I think many times if I recall, I have to 'get on the gas a bit' to get the differential lock to engage.

Mostly I stop spinning, try pushing the lock and if it does not engage right away, I slowly press the pedal so it does not slam in yet will engage the system while slowly rotating.

Maybe that's what I do but I know I engage while losing traction going uphill. I'm obviously not as careful as I probably should be. Hope I don't pay for this down the road. 300+ hard hours on her to date.

After looking at the pix you'd think a better design was needed that wasn't a cousin to a grenade. I've rarely used mine, and after seeing the destruction that can occur when your not paying attention, I'll use it even less.

Well, I haven't wrecked mine yet on my BX 25, but it is a bit finicky to use. Sometimes I put my heel down on the pedal, and it doesn't move but then I drive around a bit and then it slides down nicely. That for real lock system is useful when you're on slippery ground.

I realize that a lot of the smaller machines don't have two brake pedals, but for the machines that do, an alternative to using the differential lock is to press on the brake pedal that corresponds to the spinning wheel. In my opinion it is easier on the machine, works at least as well and perhaps better and is released the instant you let off of the brake pedal. It can also be used to "screw you out of the ground" by swinging the tractor in a downhill direction when you are really stuck. I also use split braking when working up against a building for touch up directional control or when working on a slope when gravity and the drag of your implement pushes you downhill. You can "give her a little rudder" to hold your directional line. Just like flying an aircraft in a crosswind.

When I asked my dealer the purpose for different colored boots on the various levers on my my new B2601 he said Orange means engage & disingage always at a stand still. Black doesn't matter. Maybe I should have asked what no boot means? I know with my Tacoma Pick up it has warnings all over the place to engage & disingage while stationary.

I was playing on my BX today... and paid attention to my Locking Rear pedal. One thing I noticed is that it returned to the up (disengaged) position very slowly after letting go. The pedal seemed to be 'dampened'. Is this normal for others??? Wondering if I have 'worn' it out? Other issue now is the HST not stopping my roll going forward or reverse with letting go.... I know that belongs in another thread.

You better recheck or they have changed them,
on my BX2230
Yellow color PTO selector front or rear, PTO engage (all PTO functions)

Orange color high low range, 4wd engage, cruise control, throttle lever (all motivation controls)

Black color three point hitch raise/lower, front end loader control (all hydraulic controls)

Ok, we were talking the slip on colored rubber boots up on the levers at the sides of the seat.
This is my first tractor, I haven't needed to engage front or rear PTO's yet. Can you engage PTO's while moving if needed? Maybe yellow means, caution-depending on the implement?
Don't mind me, I'm still a Green Horn.
