Loader questions?? Help

I just bought jd 4100 compact with loader. I have been using back blade action to move and smooth gravel. Should I be concerned with wear on bottom of bucket? Can I mow lawn with belly 60" deck and keep loader and ballast box on the tractor? Problems??

Carl, you can mow with the loader and such,the main drawback is manuverability around trees and things.Tom

You are also more likely to leave indentations if the ground is soft with the extra weight, and more likely to tear up the grass turning. Just depends on where you are...on the house lawn, probably no, out in the field probably yes.

Typical loose dirt won't wear the bucket much, rocky dirt will, if it's a concern get a removable cutting edge or weld a plate to the bottom like the big boys do.

This can also be done later if you don't wait till the bucket is REALLY shot! Most of us will never see our buckets wear out, most of us have jobs or other activities that interfere with having the time to get THAT much tractor fun in!

The bottom of my bucket was wearing down from rocks and rubbing on concrete footings. I had X's or diamonds welded with nickle rod on the wear surfaces. This provided a good hard surface area.

Its going to take many years to wear the bottom of the bucket out,not unless your working w/ stones etc....
Just keep an eye on your bucket cutting edge,and if you should pop a hole in your bucket its easy to fix w/ a welder.

With a little practice you know what you'll and your JD capability..just take your time an enjoy.
