Thanks for the suggestion, but I had already given that some thought and couldn't see where I would gain.
If the cylinder is extended, to shorten it the oil needs to go to the shaft side of the piston to push the shaft in, pulling the bucket up.
Upside down or right side up the oil still needs to go to the shaft side of the piston to push it in, therefore surface area around the piston because of the shaft still remains the same.
If I'm looking at this all wrong please let me know.
