The raise function on the loader quit on me tonight while moving a bale of hay.The curl function works fine and when you move the joystick to raise it is loading the tractor and you can hear a whine in the pump like the relief or something?Any ideas on what to check before calling the dealer or details on how the loader valve is piped would be helpful. Should I change lines at the quick connect to isolate? The tractor is a 790 with 419 loader and has had 1 pack of shims added to the relief.

Check your couplers. Some times something happens and one pops off or at least loose enough that you have to grab it to notice it isn't hooked up. If that isn't the problem switch the lines to see if the curl function still works in the raise spot

When it sounds as if the engine is loading up, does one of the hoses move, appear to be pressurizing? I suspect Robert has already diagnosed your problem.

Coup;ers are ok.Anyone have a manual for loader or know the color code for the quick connect, which line is raise, curl etc. The piping is in a protective sleeve so I cant trace it.

Swap the bucket curl with the loader arms at the couplers to see if it is the loader or the tractor

It could be a problem with a coupler, but not where they connect. On either side of that coupler, there are some clips that hold a ball and/or spring in place. This seemed to pop off periodically on the 400 series loaders.

Happened to me once on a 430 loaded. I want to say it was the male end. Disassemble the quick connect, and there could be a ring of some-type, maybe like an e-clip that has popped out of place.

Good luck.

I had the same symptoms on my 419 loader and it was in the coupler. The male coupler has a protruding tip that is spring loaded and is pushed backwards when inserted into the female coupler, thus allowing fluid to flow. The clip which held everything in place slipped off and the tip was no longer spring loaded, hence it didn't work right when inserted into the female coupler.

I have an uncle in Annandale. You could buy him a steak. His wife is in Brazil for 3 weeks and he's hungry. He doesn't have a tractor but has a John Deere lawn sprinkler that he likes to talk about.

Creeper, were you able to make the repair? If you could post a picture of what you replaced it would be really helpful.

Thanks from a fellow 790 - 419 owner.

The small split ring was dislodged and I was unable to repair it without bending so for $6 I bought a new one and a spare in case there is a next time. As others said it will look fine ,but if there is no spring tension it dont work.

creeper,

Glad you were able to figure this out. A few weeks ago I posted a post about the hydraulic couplers being so pressurized that you couldn't attach them to the tractor. After visiting another poster locally who had built a homemade BH that was anything but homemade, I saw that he had made a series of wooden blocks to support the 210 bucket. As it turns out, after removing the 210 bucket, the design inclines the tractor to tilt backwards. This of course adds hydraulic pressure to the lines. It is a design feature that the old bucket off my 755 did not have. Progress. Well it is in one man's eyes... /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Thanks Creeper, the picture helped me "see" what the problem was. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif Glad you were able to make the repair!
