Your boot idea may help but silicone is cheap and easily removed

I've heard that in some cases the boot may do more harm than good as it traps moisture instead of letting it evaporate away.

Try frigelli auto out of California

Much cheaper than a hydraulic setup

Oh; time is $$. Getting off and on for me would cost more than installing the actuator!
