Oh no……..farmers doing electrical. My worst fears have come true.

You would not begin to imagine all the electrical repairs ive had to do at farms using bailing wire, duct tape (the silver tape conducts electricity ya know), lamp cord, pennies behind screw in fuses.

One of my best friends father was a dairy farmer. His well power went out a few years ago and his son and I tried to fix it. Other than the fact that the smallest wire he could probably find on a spool was used for the 1200’ run, he still managed to have a splice about every 100 feet or so…they were all bad splices..mostly just wirenut and tape. And all underground.

Almost Every wire on the farm installed by dad. He bought this wire from Sears roebuck catalog in 1950s.
I did some wiring.

I thought our old house fuse box was the one in a barn, but my brother said it was one from my grandmothers house. Has the screw in fuses and still working.

Btw, the farm has a 60A service total, but has natural gas.

Reminds me of a pic I took of a rancher in Dixie Valley, Nevada 40+ years ago. He was just shy of 80 years old when I took this pic of him climbing his power pole (no commercial power out there - he ran an ancient "Witte" diesel generator).

When a power pole (locust tree) rots at the ground, dad would plant a new pole beside it and tie the old pole to it.
One between the house and barn, the very top of the old pole broke off where all the wires connect, my BIL wired that section to the newer pole with barbed wire, I’m sure following dads instructions.

I’ll climb up and add it next time . If it wasn’t for barbed wire, this place would fall apart.
