Flail Mower Let's talk flail mowers

Thanks. I've called and left message to see it. You guys think my Kubota 3301/HST with 26 hp at PTO can handle it ok?
Can you tell what kind of cut the drum and knives are set up for?
Thanks
My L3200 (same as yours without the tier 4 junk) handles my 719 just fine, think it's 7'. Tractor is 5' wide. I go slower than with the 5' rotary cutter, but am cutting more per pass & getting a better cut.

Within reason, the limit on mowers is how much you can lift on the 3pt & maneuver with effectively, not HP. If you are short on HP, just go slower until it can spin the proper PTO RPM. Trivial with a HST, hopefully you have enough & the right gears if you have a gear machine.

1st: the flail mower does not have a drum. The "Long Length Knife Pairs" are referred to as side slicer knives.
They are mounted on a "Flail Mower Rotor" with no shackles/D rings.

The "Flail Mower Rotor" is actually thick tubular steel with weldments attached to the tube to anchor the side slicers.
(insert BOO HISS here) this was done by Mr. Mott to save money and in the process it made more work because longer side slicers are needed.

2nd: as long as you mow slowly with it you will be fine do not expect to cut foot tall grass unless you make several passes after readjusting the rear height gauge roller at least once.

3rd. This flail mower is a finish cut flail mower with four rows of knives. These flail mowers/thier sister mowers were mounted under IHC Cub Lowboys with the side seats and they sold many of these mowers and tractor combinations.

changed blades on my Alamo 74" Fine cut mower this morning. Took about 2 1/2 hrs. Not a bad job. About 4-5 knife sets were missing cotter pins and I had lost 3-4 sets of knives completely. Bought the new set from Flailmaster. Knives and pins and 200 cotter pins for less than $150.

Will need to do some mowing soon.

Thanks! I'm meeting the guy tonight after he gets off work.
Wife asked me why I was hooking the trailer up if I was just going over to "look" at it.
She's on to me. This'll cost shoes.

Shazzam!!!,

It appears you are looking at a MOTT INTERSTATER my friend.

If you have the time I would invest in it and with little TLC you
will have a flail mower that will outperform any rotary.

Leonz,
Thank you for the info.
I got it but not at the 300 bucks.
The gearbox and everything seems to rotate smoothly. All the knives are there but out on the ends which after reading through the first 800 posts(so far) on this thread, I see is common.
I'm not sure what the two vertical pieces are for on the back that are for an adjustable pin connection. Gauge wheels maybe?
It cost me 160.

Headed home with it. Tickled to death.

That'll keep you busy and out of trouble for a while. Great deal.

The vertical breckets on the back seem to be just like the ones on the bigger Alamos's...gauge wheels...not sure why you would need them since the roller pretty much takes care of that.

You stole that mower.

This looks like a SHD 96 with such brackets in the back.

You want to invest in the 2 gauge wheels to make it easier to turn and prevent gouging and mower nose diving by dips in the sod. That mower had a V belt guard on it at one time so you need to replace it from a supplier like flail master or find out if the owner still has the original.

****'s bells just tell her it was my fault and that I was passed over by the black helicopters when I told you to buy it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Don't feel bad if all she wants is shoes; The new coal stoker boiler I bought just cost me another rescue mutt mouth to feed for at least 10 years and a a trip half way to Niagara Falls, WOOOF, GRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Just don't let it turn into Imelda Marcos shoe closet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Welcome to the Flail Mower Nation my friend you will not be dissappointed as long as you read, follow instructions on how to set up your mower, invest in fine thread nylock lock nuts and bolts for the knife hanger stations and ask questions.
