Hello Docsfarm,

Just be careful with the Power Take off Speeds in really heavy brush
as your going to want to run it at the 540 PTO engine speed

Wait until you run it with the trash door wide open,
you will think you have a 4 foot wide by 6 foot high deluge gun fire nozzle !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ask one of your neighbors if you can shred some of his corn stalks with
your new toy, er flail mower, er Orchard and Vineyard Shredder and
tell them its a Maschio product hiding under Land Pride paint.

Just be sure that no one, not even the four legged pedestrians are/is within the rear casting distance of the
flail shredder with the trash door open while running it.

Happy Mowing

Hello Kimaron, you mak have a PTO shaft that has a cotter pin shear pin in one of the yoke ends too so you should see if the yoke ends spin too. if you order new scoop knives you should plan on getting spare knife hangers and hanger straps too If you change them all your going to need three dozen scoop knives and new nuts and bolts. Please be sure to purchase fine thread nuts and bolts and blue loctite to prevent them from vibrating apart. If you have a ratcheting box wrench set great, if not invest in the one wrench size needed for the hanger bolts and a 1/2 inch drive 24-inch breaker bar and shallow 12 point socket and a good 12 point box end wrench to make it easier to remove the bolts and nuts. If you can afford it purchase these tools from a Snap On Dealer as you will have good hand tools that will always work for you and not break if used properly. I am not trying to spend you money, I want you to have good tools you can depend on and avoid filling a swear jar if you skin your knuckles and or draw blood.
you don't have to spend money on over-priced tools. Just go to Sears or Lowe's. Also try to always pull vs pushing when you can

Why would you recommend a 12 point socket and a 12 point wrench over a 6 point??

I only use 12 point tools on new, easily removed/installed fasteners.
It the fastener is tight, or slightly rusted, I only use 6 point.

If I can get an impact socket on a severely rusted piece of hardware,, I much prefer the extra strength of that type socket.

Just wondering if I am missing something,,,

I suggested the 12 point box end ratcheting wrench and or the 12 point box wrench just like using fine threaded nots and bolts for flail mowers MORE USEABLE GRIP and much less likely to slip and or fill the swear jar with multiple deposits of beer/magazine/newspaper, trips to Barnes and Noble money with coupon cards kind of money.

This is one location where long handled Allen Wrench and Allen Bolts of either fine thread or coarse thread and Allen Bolt Washers would excel as the Allen Wrench is long enough to rest against the rotor or knife hanging weldment behind it and allows the user to employ a long handled 1/2" ratchet to break the nut loose and a 12 point socket preferably an impact grade socket for this purpose.

Another worry is if you cannot get all the dirt off the bolt head and you slip. Where the Allen Bolt would require just a little cleaning of the bolt head hex space with a right angle scribe or a pick used to remove compression stuffing box packing. This way you could go at it from either end with less chance of scraped knuckles.

My thought on a rainy Sunday before "All Hallows Eve", which reminds me I have to get the moat monsters all riled up for tomorrow night.

With the holidays coming up, there will be any number of great sales on tools from a lot of places. I have Craftsman - the older ones have held up very well, but the new stuff likes to rust quickly - they just dont make them the same. Having said that I have always gotten replacements quickly. The set from Lowes and HD have done the same thing. I can say the Snap On socket set I got as a door prize is still in great shape.

I have both the 12 point and 6 point set from various places (yard sales are great), and if the 6 point will fit I go that route. Surprisingly the Harbor Freight impact set is still like new - go figure.

They all work if they are taken care of, but I am not the Tool Man polishing my Binford 2000 every night. :D I'm lucky it the get back in the box:confused3:. Once In a while I round them all up and get them cleaned and sorted. Speaking of which I need to do that again soon.

With the HST I was able to just lift off the go pedal a bit when I needed to to
Keep the PTO at 540. Very easy and no real change from how I normally mowed which is fantastic!!

Man you guys are mowing some expensive weeds. I love the hydraulic offset but will stick with my $2000 Caroni TM1900 which has been cutting just about anything I run over with it for ten years now.

Now all I need is for the boss unit to see this posts - I know I will never hear the end of it.

I plan to hire myself out to mow folks fields around here if I can get the liability insurance figured out, or a legal liability waver for folks to sign. I have one for my hay work, but is is operation specific. They have lots of irrigation ditches they cant mow over, but I can with this unit. We will see.

Yes, weeds in irrigation ditches are the costliest weeds of all and do require some sort of offset mower. Luckily we don't have those where I live and if I did I'd be tempted to use some killall weedkiller as there is little agriculture to be concerned about. Just make sure SWMBO knows you are dealing with something more than plain old pastures.
