I HAVE A LENAR 254II THAT i'M ON MY FOURTH STARTER.:I have spoken to the texas distributor that tells me it will be 2 to 3 months for a starter.I took the original to a local rebuilder with no luck there.the distributor sent me a so-called rebuilt that would not work.I have checked the voltage at the starter & I have 12.69 volts . does anyone have any ideas where i can get a working starter for this tractor .:(

What motor do you have? If its a 3 cylinder Y395 like in the Jinma 254/284 you are in luck. Jinmaparts.com has a American made gear reduction replacement starter. I have one and it is great. It will fit other engine combos but you will have to check with them on that.

The motor is a NJ385B , 3 cyl diesel. thanks

I would give them a call. It may fit and if it does it will be the best money you have spent on this tractor.

One last thing. What is wrong with the starer? Does it spin but does not engage or what? If it is a problem like that I may have a fix.

I have two starters, the one on the tractor will kick in & turn the engine over maybe 1 or 2 revolutions & then the starter drive will kick out. the other starter I have the starter drive will just spin . thanks

I called jinma but they said it won't work because my starter is on the left side & the jinma's is on the right side:(

I sent you a private message with some info that may help. One thing you may try is to check the wiring. The Chinese tractors are known for bad wiring and grounds. Check and double check everything.

JMARIE and others with starters that kick out or just spin and do not engage here is what a lot of us Jinma owners have done to cure this problem. First, the problem is a loss of voltage/current due to the wiring and key switch used on these tractors. A cheap easy fix in most cases is to add a 3 Post Ford Solenoid. Simply mount the solenoid near the starter and remove the wire coming from the key switch off the tractors starter and put it on the small terminal of the Ford Solenoid. Now make up a 10ga or 8ga wire going from the post on the starter where you removed the wire to one of the large terminals on the Ford Solenoid. From the other large terminal on the Ford Solenoid makeup a 10ga or 8ga wire and attach to the terminal where the large wire comes in from the battery.

What you are now doing is using the small amount of voltage/current from the key switch to close the Ford Solenoid. When closed it takes voltage/current from the wire coming from the battery to now operate the starter and keep it engaged.

If you are really friendly with a Mahindra dealer, maybe they can order the starter that they are using now on The 25 tractor, it is a nice modern gear reduction type. Worth a try.

:( The mahindra starter will not work on the lenar. I ordered one & it is a 3 bolt starter . the lenar is a 2 bolt & the overall length is to long. I am awaiting a so-called rebuilt from the distributor. The first one would not turn over.

I'm sorry I lead you astray. I guess Mahindra changed the casting, I saw the gear reduction starter, but it has been years since I saw a lenar and I didn't notice the difference, the new starter is much smaller than the original lenar starter (I'm assuming you got the one for the new Chinese 2525 and not teh old series 25). It it had worked it would have been an excellent solution.

At least you saved money on the tractor! ;)

I should have spent the extra money on a real tractor. The money I saved does not mean much when you have a tractor that will not start:mad:

J Marie, I will try to help,:) first be careful of what you say or how you say anything negative about your tractor. It can get you banned. Someone will tell a little bird about it and that little bird will tell the big bird and boom, your banned.

Now considering your problem with the starters, yes they do leave something to be desired, however, considering the time of yr it is, it could be cold weather playing havoc on your starter. Try warming the starter. I know a fella that had a starter that would only spin when it was cold out. He would hit the key several times causing the starter to spin and create friction thus warming the grease in the mechanism that kicks the gear out. He would hit the key, the motor would spin and then right before it stopped spinning he would hit the key again, and the gear would engage, now on the cold days, it did take a while, sometimes an hour of trying this to get it to work. When you take the starter off, try cleaning the inside of it with break cleaner or something to break the grease up. Then relube it with some thin oil, WD 40 or something similar. When you have it off, hook it up to a battery so you can see the moving parts and spay them as they function. Hope this helps.

justinfo it's a sad day when negative comments will get you banned from this site, but I am afraid that you may be right. jmarie I agree with you about buying a better brand of tractor my chine tractor has cost me a arm and leg. not counting the down time that i needed to be using it, and my wife tells me about it every day. my brother owns a name brand that starts and runs every time he wants to use it, life must be very boring for him. I do have a 1953 ford tractor that does start and runs very well that i use for a back up( now it's my main tractor, yes the C tractor is broke again and am waiting on parts)

Tim out of curiosity, what brand of tractor do you have. If you wish not to disclose that in the open, please feel free to call me or send me a private message. Thanks and I do hope that my advice helps J marie. It is not a solution to her problem, just a band aid on a bad problem that doesn't seem to have a solution. I have seen owners of these tractors all over the world, Uk, Australia, Canada, ect ect with identical starter problems. You know, when they over look the tail lights melting the lens covers, how much faith can we have in them correcting a complicated problem like a faulty starter design. I dont think J Marie saved any money on her machine, it still is costing him/her in frustration and down time. Best of luck to you J marie

Not when those "negative comments " constitute violations of the forum terms of service. One of those violations is to "Post under multiple identities and/or names ". Draw your own conclusion

Greg,

There is not a doubt in my mind that there are users that have multiple names on here. But, I have been lurking on this board for a while and I have seen several members banned and the only reason I can see that they were banned is because they disagreed with the DEALER/DISTRIBUTER POLICE. From what I have seen these members were using just one name. This board should be an open forum for all tractor owners. The posting of opinions, facts, experiences, and or what not, weather they be pro or con to any make or brand of tractor should be allowed. If it is false or untrue, then there is a problem. Censorship should only be used to clear profanity and sexually obscene material unrelated to this forum. If it is alright for someone to say Brand X tractor is the best **** tractor I have ever owned, then it should be ok to say Brand X tractor is the worst **** tractor I have ever bought, but we know that there are those that will dictate what is permissible and what is not. I whole heartedly agree with the banned member that said Dealers and Distributors should not be moderators having the power to protect the image of the tractor that they are selling.
