Will sweat corn rot or dry out if left on the stalk. The reason I'm asking is I got a large about of sweet corn seeds about 50 lbs in 5lb bags from a friend. It's obviously more than I can plant for ourselves and I was thinking about planting it in a food plot next year and possibly selling some of it.

It not a super sweet variety and I really don't want to planting cattle corn for the deer since it's to close to where I plant our eating corn. Just a stone wall over to the next field. I dont like the idea of cross pollination, unless there's a way to stagger the planting with one or the other so that the timeframes don't overlap.

deer LOVE sweet corn, but once they get a taste of it they WILL be in your garden eating YOURS as well as what is left for them out in the field, It will grow fine and dry fine on the cob/ear standing out in the field, it will also self seed for following years if some kernels are left by the birds & deer.

other wild critters also love it such as raccoons, opossum & all other rodents so if you DO leave ANY type of corn to be eaten it will draw critters up to where ever it has been left.

pan fry the dried sweet corn - it puffs up, but doesn't pop.
this gives you parched corn, which is like corn nuts or glad corn.
great snack!

also - yes, you can stagger planting times by 2 weeks or a month to avoid cross pollination.
