Leaving Implements Raised - Bad For Hydraulic System?

Indeed, and vehicles' bumpers had sand, rock, mud, salt walter thrown at it at speed in excess of 60 mph...
And looked like this without a lot of elbow grease so they switched to molded painted plastic. Chrome on cars held up so well that re-chroming was a thriving business.

Chrome bumpers do bring up an interesting point though, I haven't heard of a single one that leaked hydraulic oil.

That bumper pic is so fake. Well,,,, maybe fake is not the correct term.... How about misleading?

It would suggest that the car is in great shape while the bumper is trashed. Not so. That car has been freshly restored/painted and then an old bumper installed. Assuming the owner will replace it with a new one? :)

Is it much different than the chrome plating on old cars' bumpers? Because those were always subject to harsh weather and would take years before showing any rust
There is considerable difference between the two, industrial chrome plating has a heavy doses of chromium to provide a durable surface while automotive bright chrome is a light coat of chromium over nickle and some copper to give it the bright shine.

That doesn't look like the Chrome my dad's car had. And if you think that car went from Chrome to plastic because of this, you're wrong.

So in essence, the chrome on cylinder rods are of higher quality than what we saw on bumpers so would last even longer.

What's your point? Exposed rods rust. I'm sorry, but they do. If you've never seen it, all that means is that you've never seen it. Well, look:

I'm not saying they don't but on a machine that is used semi regularly, is it worth taking the extra steps to retract the rods? My initial point was it's impossible to have all the backhoe cylinders retracted and if it doesn't become an issue for backhoes, why would be an issue for loaders?

That's been my point all along. Regular use is the best protection.

There's no difference between loader rods and backhoe rods that I know of, and I thought the "if it's not an issue for backhoes" argument was already addressed. If you live in an area where rods rust quickly then it IS an issue for backhoes. You obviously don't live in such a place so if it's not an issue for you then simply don't worry about it. There's no point in passive aggressively trying to undermine advice that DOES apply to others, just because it doesn't apply to you.
