How typical.. it snows, I need the tractor and now it won't start.

A couple of questions;

1/ Where is the clutch switch located? (I had previous problems that I had to depress and push hard for it to start and now I need to short it out)

2/ I was able to crank it by shorting across the starter . I couldn't quite get it to start due to the cold and now when I try it doesn't pull in to engage the ring gear. Do you think the starter solenoid is burnt out ? It does try to push in when you look at the end of the starter shaft.

Thanks in advance.

Did you try a jump pack? Check the voltage at battery when you engage starter, does it go from 12 v to huge drop?

Easiest emergency fix would be to use jump pack straight to starter motor and ground. That's what I do with small equipment I don't have time to fiddle with.

Could be a bad ground on the battery cable that goes to ground.

Thanks for your reply.. yes I did have a jump pack hooked up.

I am thinking the solenoid on the starter might have burned out.

I still need to find the clutch switch location ?

You to check a few things before you go any further. If you attempt to jump directly to the starter, you may bypass the glow system. The tractor won't start without glow.

First determine the battery load checks. That is often the problem when the cold settles in.

Next check the terminals and grounds. Load check the battery at the frame ground and starter to check the connections.

Next check for voltage at the glow plugs. You should get about 10 volts at the plugs with the key in the glow position.

The clutch switch is simply a micro switch behind the clutch pedal shaft. You can jump the switch to test it, or continuity check the switch.

Check the starter relay. Make sure you have signal voltage. You should be able to hear a click in the relay when you turn the key to start.

You can then check for starter vlotage.

Trying to start the tractor without ar least one good glow cycle will not work.

Hope this helps.

As follow up for those that end up searching on this problem.. I found the clutch safety switch.. it is in fact on the right side of the bell housing up under the lower right dash panel.

The clutch shaft goes right through the bell housing and out the right side .
