Had a computer guy over this morning to try to solve my printer problem after the Win 10 update. Turns out the update had not finished. He set it up to finish. It did, but I still could not print from this machine but can print to the new printer from my wife's PC which seems to have weathered the same Win 10 update with no problem.

What happened is the hard drive failed, and the update did not complete. If fussed with it and got the hard drive going again, not realizing the update had not finished.

So, I went shopping for a computer online. First, figured I needed to backup my Outlook. Well Outlook messed up the backup file and now will not even come up. Have to do email from Centurylink's rather awful online webmail. So, computer search was accelerated.

Ordered a new HP with CPU mounted behind the monitor like we have as the extension office. Can pick it up tomorrow. It has 256 GB of the new instantaneous memory plus 1 TB of hard drive. Bootup should be instantaneous with this kind of memory/drive. Also has 8 GB of memory. May make do with my USB KB and Mouse and maybe later add wireless ones.

Found my old MS Office and Publisher keys, but they may be too old: August, 2015. MS may make me get new. New Office is $150, and the master gardeners should reimburse me for Publisher if I have to buy new.

But it's all the other stuff: Norton (paid by embarqmail/centurylink), Photosuite 4, load address list into Outlook, set up Outlook, etc. that will be the pain. Of course, I'll have to reload my printer driver.

FINALLY got Office 365 installed on the new HP all-in-one. It's a PITA to install because they don't tell you that you can click the icons and set up each "app" (Word, etc.). That's part of the install. At one point after I worked in Outlook for a while after doing Word, OneDrive and Excel, it said I had to close them all, and it finished. I gave MS a bad review in their Feedback area.

Turned out I got Outlook on the old Dell working by starting it in safe mode. Then when restarted, Outlook came up fine. Then saved my calendar and contacts files as csv files and imported them into the new Outlook 365.

Pissed off at the yearly pay for 365. Tried to get Office 2016 single pay to get Outlook and Publisher (not possible in 365). Nope.

They've greatly integrated Office with OneDrive cloud. You can mainly just use it and now use the Docs/Pics on the C drive.

Office actually forces you to use OneDrive. I reloaded my old HP 3180 to be OCR scanning ability. The new HP 3830 does not have this. The 3180 puts Scan folders in Docs and Pictures on your C drive. New Office cannot find it there. You have to move your Scan folders to OneDrive.

You can find (backup or whatever) your C and other drives with File Explorer but not in Office.

Attached is me at the new HP with old Dell tower behind. Haven't figured what to do with my pics when the Dell tower goes junky to Crutchfields.

Mine loaded with no problem and the later on the computer went bonkers and I had to send it to my IT in Chicago and he reloaded everything plus installed a remote agent so I never have to download any updates again. They will handle that from their office, why I have not been on site for a while. Laptop had a big brain fart.

Became basically a rock, a very expensive rock. I told him if it wasn't fixable, get me a new one, he's a Dell business dealer. Fine now with some additional software including all his new programmers tools. I piggyback on his licenses. I have stuff on here that I don't have a clue about and candidly, don't want to know about. This one set me back almost 3 grand, wasn't anxious to buy another but I do need it for my business. All my data that I wasn't able to access was on my external solid state drive, thank goodness for that.

I run 2 Brother's. A MFC J8700 and a 1960C Intellefax. Both are flawless and have been for years. What I like best is how inexpensive the cartridges are for them and , unlike the Cannon Printers, they don't 'self destruct' when the cleaning tank becomes full of old ink. It never gets full because they pump the cleaned ink back into the cartridges.

The Cannon's will default to a 'no print' condition when the used ink tank is full. Pre-planned life.

I have a Brother MFC-J885DW. It is showing a error code of: "Ink Absorber Pad Full". I read the User Manual and it says call a Brother Service Center. That's it. Nothing on how to fix or anything. Yea, I'm gonna call some Service Center to come +40 miles one way for a $50 printer. :(

Any ideas on how to fix? The printer is DOA except for scanning something to my computer.

Thanks,

Thanks,

I gave away a Brother all-in-one, and the Epson all-in-one at the extension office is all but impossible to work. Brother was awful, too.

HP makes really good printers. Got both HP all-in-ones connected to this computer now because the newer one doesn't have scan to doc or rtf.

A call to the Brother Tech Support number - 877-276-8437 would also work. I have called them a few times and they are very professional and helpful.

"The internal ink absorber or flushing box isn't an part available for purchase. It should only be replaced by a Brother Authorized Service Center."
