I have a JD4700 purchased in 2000. Last February the dealer notified me of a product improvement program which replaced the positive battery cable with one which is shielded from the exhaust pipe. The exhaust pipe was removed for this installation.
The exhause pipe was re-installed by the technician incorrectly. This is easy to do as the clearance is quite small.
The exhaust pipe came in contact with the side panel and melted it. This could have caused a fire and totaled the tractor.
If you have a large frame tractor with this pip already complete, check the clearance for the exhaust pipe and the side panel.
