Landscaping questions

Ok, I've got the tractor, now what do I do?

I got a JD 2520, 200CX FEL, Mower deck, Snowblower, and box blade. Plans are to use it to level the yard, spread sand fill, black dirt, and plant grass. Also plan to backfill around retaining wall block and patio built with pavers, and slope grade away from house and patio.

I know it is probably common sense stuff but I have been trying to find info on the internet on landscaping tips, setting grade and slope away from house, how much sand and how much black dirt on surface for grass seed, etc, etc.

Anyone know of any good websites that cover the basics?

Will need to know where you live, because in some areas of the country, it is too late to plant grass. You will need to wait till next spring. Always grade away from the house and make sure that the rain water runs where you want it to. Setting a grade is done with a transit and stakes. It takes time to get it right, but it can be done, if you have patience. I know of no sites that give basic landscaping lessons, but I also haven't looked for them. Do a Google search and see what comes up. Also, there are books at the garden centers that discuss this topic. Back when I was doing my home, Al Gore hadn't invented the internet yet, so I had to rely on books. Dusty

Unfortunately, most on that forum are about as friendly as heat rash when dealing with anyone not "in the business". They view it as a threat to their livlihood and will, generally, not answer questions. Too bad because there are many very experienced folks on that forum.
