landpride tilller differences?

Looking at buying a new 58" landpride tiller. They are pricey but quality doesn't seem to come cheap. I can't seem to figure out the difference between the 1058 or the 1258. The 1258 is about 100 bucks less. Anyone out there have some insight on land pride tillers? On another note, I know there are folks out there that know the anguish I'm going through when I look at that I can spend about 400 to 500 less and get a king kutter type or an italian made tiller. Why should I or shouldn't I spend the extra money on a land pride tiller?

my guess whith out looking up the model #s one is reverse tine and the other is forward reverse tine tillers usaly cost a little more land pride tillers are very good

I just got the price on a LandPride as well. I have no doubt I will buy a land pride for a long list of reasons. I have yet to find an owner who was not thrilled, the factory is near me in Kansas, they have excellent people. Every KK product I have owned was OK, never great. You cannot make hard working stuff cheap and expect it to work like the better products.

They also believe in supporting others. They have been tremendous supporters of the Wild Turkey federation, Quail groups like QU, Pheasants forever etc.

No other tiller mfg comes close in that regard and I believe that deserves recognition and my support back.

Only you can determine if LP is worth the extra money, to me it is. I have owned and still own several different brands of equipment, but in the future will stick with Land Pride or Woods.

If they are using the China or Italian drive train that KK uses, I don't see what would make them worth any more money? Ken Sweet

I look at it overall, fit, finish, paint etc.

Also as a dealer, you know that just because a drive train is made in the same country as another does not make it the same. I do realize that many if not most use Chinese made gear boxes.

I stand by my original statement, "Only you can determine if LP is worth the extra money, to me it is." I don't see how anyone could argue with that unless they really try.

The landpride dealer and the tsc that carries the country line tiller (made by tarter) are within about 5 minutes of each other. Made it nice to at least look at the cosmetic diffferences. The King Kutter 5 foot looks very similar to the tarter . I think for an extra 400 bucks I'll go with the landpride 1058. The "fit and finish" is just a lot nicer. For an extra hour of labor if King Kutter would just take the grinder to some of the rough edges they would have probably sold me. That might seem a little trivial but I only want to buy one ever. Won't be lucky enough to buy one that's green. Apparently none even in the state.

We own a LP RTR1058, the "RTR" is Reverse Tine Rotation, 12 is the series and 58 is the nominal width. The 10, 12, 15 series indicates how "HD" they are, if you look at the LP website and brochures it explains the differences clearly.

Last year (for Valentine's day) the cost was $2250 less $500 for our 36" Kubota trade-in.

Some of the things I really like are that you can adjust the off-set from centered to left or right off-set as needed. Ours is set up with no off-set because it covers both rear wheels with a few inches to spare, even with the turf tires installed. Also, the unit has four tines per row and 7 rows, more than anything in the price range. Couple all that with a good depth of reach and we have been very satisfied with it. As of today, we have tilled the equivelant of 10Ac, one pass, with it in the past 13 months. Still looks like new.

The paint seems to be baked enamel or powder coated, I really cannot tell.

Dont know it for sure.... but just looking at the deere close and comparing with other brands wich I have done, not just with deere actually, but with every brand I could lay my eyes on....

The deere models 647 threw the 681, green sicmas....

The other deere line 'frontier' stuff, machisio and other brands, Its quite a mix for the frontier line.

Landpride is good, just there is other brands just as good but cheaper.

Im not sure what tiller to pick... got a couple brands I like, think I will put there names on a piece of paper, then into a hat and pick one

I'm confused by Land Pride's new "12" series out this year. The specs on the RTR1050 and RTR1250 are extremely similar yet the RTR1250 costs less than both the RTR1050 and the light duty RTR0550??

Anyone know why the 12 series costs less than the 10 and 05 series?

The 12 series is 41 lbs lighter than the 10 series of the same width, more weight infers heavier/stronger construction.
On further inspection I see that the 12 series is rated for higher horsepower and that the RTR spec is actually the RTA spec for the 12 series so the numbers are bogus. If the 12 is heavier and cheaper then that is the one I would want. Might be priced lower to get a few out in the field.
The 05 is considerably lighter than the other two so no idea why the 12 would be cheaper than the 05. My opinion would be "don't buy an 05".
I have a LP tiller that I bought used, the tines were worn out and it had a leaky chain case seal. New tines and a new seal and it has been trouble free ever since. The way it was set up when I got it led me to believe that it had been used on a larger tractor than any I have had. It looks used but works great.

Over the summer I got a JD 855 with a RTR0550. Never used anything else, but I gotta say I LOVE this tiller. I'm gettin' hard red clay, gravel, blackberry roots......some with one pass, others maybe two. Wow.:thumbsup:
