Land Tilling Question

/ Land Tilling Question #21
Kieth,

Just a quick couple points. First, my 60" KK tiller was $1050 3 years ago. The local farm store has them at $1200 and I think they will go on sale in January. So, it's more likely your are looking at a $1000 -ish for a 48" tiller.

Second, since you don't have many rocks, a shear bolt is for safety is ok. Just use grade 2 bolts. For intermitent use they are a LOT more safe. The slip clutch can and will rust up solid and won't slip. That can lead to expen$ive repairs to the tiller and the tractor. If you havn't used the tiller for more than a couple weeks (with no rain!) you MUST adjust the slip clutch.

/ Land Tilling Question #22
Keith,

You are right about owning a tiller and still renting the c-tine.... I knew that there were larger buried rocks that my tiller would not kickup and would damage my tiller. The only reason that I spent the $45 and a day's worth of work was to save my $2000 tiller. If I thought that I could have gotten away with just tilling I would have not rented the C-tine.

And....... I still rented a 5'-0" power rake for my B7800 to remove all of the stones that I could not get with the landscape rake. The C-tine pulled alot more stones to the surface then I would have liked.

My opinion is I would rather put the wear and tear on rental implements for couple of dollars and not damage my equipment. I use my tiller several times a year preparing flower and seed beds for myself, neighbor and both parents.

Keep us posted as to what you decide to do and post a bunch of pictures.
