Maybe this will help someone.
I dammed a spring after putting in 6"pvc pipe and it was leaking under the pipe. A fellow I know had a lake that was leaking at the overflow pipe. He recommended Benseal, worked for him and for me. Mine I redid it this time Benseal where pipe Y was, then packed it tight compacting red clay all the way. His he just poured bags around pipe. So far so good. 20180730_184503.jpeg

Active ingredient is Bentonite clay.

You're not supposed to stick the overflow pipe through the dam, but maybe with a small pond it will last okay. Will be interested to see if the Bentonite clay is a long-lasting solution.

Bentonite is a common natural sealer used in golf course man made ponds among other projects.

This spring is marked on the oldest play I could find here, 1840. It flows out to a creek, about 60ft. So we dug down to solid bedrock, then pipe down to Y, then out. It should be fine now.
