Lady Bug Infestation

We are going to import some type of Chinese wasp that consumes the bug that kills the ash trees. Well, isn't that great. They tell us that these wasps don't sting.

So imagine your house full of lady bugs/beetles. Now replace that image with a house full of Chinese wasps.

Only the great minds of our Minnesota public officials could come up with a plan like that.

Come on, the Chinese make everything else we use why not wasps as well? :laughing:

I had issues with all kinds of vermin about three years ago when I moved here. Terminix came for the first year as I was working on more important projects, but I finally took over my own pest control, and this place has some great stuff.

Don't waste your money at a Wal-Mart for pest control. I use Demon WP in the water soluble packets myself. It's safe inside mixed properly, but I just create a barrier around the house and outbuildings. It's great to be wasp free.

Same here. Asian beatles come in the house in the fall. The amount of them vary year to year. They kind of go away during the winter, but one still pops up now and then. I've worked in different places, and found hundreds of them behind things, such as tree bark. Then seem to hibernate during certain times of the year.

I haven't found a solution for them yet either.

I've heard we have a new bug on the way from Georgia to Alabama that eats Kudzu. Now that's great but this bug also stinks, eats soy bean and other crops, and get into your house.

Our orange ladybug looking thing hasn't been too bad since the first year they showed up 4 or 5 years ago. But those 1 inch long centipedes we had last summer were terrible. They stink and nothing kills them. Thousands on the carport every night.

Years ago, I used Cloradane, 73%. Demon WP is the best thing I've found since. I always swore Cloradane would kill a bear if you could get it on him, turns out, I was right.:laughing:

I am currently living full time in my log cabin while my home in town is being rennovated. I'm enjoying country living. I'm handling the commute (40 minutes) okay. I'm handling the long muddy driveway okay. I'm dealing with not having TV or internet. I'm getting by with three of us in one tiny bathroom (even though one of us is a 17 year old girl).

But, the lady bugs are about to drive me nuts. I've heard that they are not technically ladybugs but they look like them to me. They don't bite.They aren't disgusting or scary. They don't get in the garbage. I don't think they are nasty or spread germs. But they are everywhere. Especially windows, ceilings and light fixtures. They get in our hair. They fall into the bed at night. Sometimes they fall in your plate. They also stink if disturbed or squashed.

Any home remedies for these things? We've tried vacuuming them up. By the hundreds. No help. I've set off bug bombs. Temprorary improvement only. Will try anything at this point.

Its expensive but I gladly pay the cost. It works and has no smell. Supposed to be very safe. This site is for an example I have not bought from them.

Horse apples, Osage orange ... AKA Green balls from the bois de arc tree is suppose to handle them ... also have been told that bowls of water with a touch of Dawn dish soap attracts them... and they can't swim ... don't know just thought I would share that.

I do know we have alot of Bois De Arc trees and have no beetles.

I have no first hand experience with this but I would get a chicken and see if it will eat the bugs. If it eats the bugs then get a bunch of chickens. If it doesn't eat the bugs then eat the chicken and get a fogger.
Lady bugs eat aphids. You must have a lot of aphids to support a population of lady bugs that virulent. Perhaps killing the aphids may be easier than killing the ladybugs? I would think that once the aphids are gone the ladybugs will dissapear.

We had those beetles so bad it was awful. I mean they would cover the side of the house in the kazillions(real term it means a lot). I used the Suspend and they fell as soon as they landed. I took some to my inlaws and sprayed and a neighbor asked what it was his wife had been vacing them up for days. I had enough to spray his place as well. The wife called and asked where to get get some she didn't care what it cost.

We have the same invasion every fall for few weeks. They get into every crevice and seem to winter over there. Sometime after Thanksgiving when they are sluggish we open the windows and clean out the bugs.

Took about 12 cans of expanding foam around the sheet rock and 3 cans non-expanding foam around the windows and doors.Foam covers over recepticles.Then I caught them coming under the patio sliding door frame, expanding foam for it. Now slowed down, even when I find them in the attic in clusters.

That ash insect is the emerald ash borer, nasty creature. As someone with white ash trees on my property its something i really worry about. There are some huge 1k acr tree farms up our way for the baseball bat industry, ash trees. Ever see how many maple bats break, and break nasty? Anything to slow this bad bug down would be helpful. Its why they do not want people moving firewood around. You may see the traps (for data collection) along the highways too, look like orange hanging cones.

If so they aren't lady bugs, but that dreaded stink bug. And those darn things are a pain, the only way to get ride of them is Seven (which indoors in the winter would be a really bad idea) or call an exterminator.

We have the same problem up here in PA and in the winter they go indoors for warmth. So homes through out the region are inundated by them. Although they claim they aren't breeding in the winter, you couldn't prove it by me. And when you squish them, boy do they stink! :mur:

i saw something on the boobtube yesterday, that said the stink bug, has a "nest" an if you are getting them in your home, start trying to find the nest outside that they are coming from..they also said the best thing to do inside is vacuum them up an dispose of them..

Here is an update. Vacuumed them by the hundreds, if not thousands. Helps for about a day. It got a little warm out and I opened the windows. It helped for about half a day. Tried putting out apples slices etc....not one came to them.

So, yesterday I just got three cans of some generic bug bomb from the grocery and set them off. My wife got home before I did and she said it took her 45 minutes to vacuum all the dead ones off the floor. Only time will tell if this really worked but she said the number of dead ones was amazing......so even if the bug bombs don't solve the problem completely, it is at least gratifying to know that I can take a toll on them somehow.:smiley_aafz:

Anyway, if this isn't a complete solution I will get some home spray....Ortho makes and indoor/outdoor product you mix yourself, plus I'll bug bomb again and put a few of them in the attic too. Not sure who is more likely to die from all that, me or the bugs. Either way, problem solved, right?

Bad stinkbug infestation in the Indian Springs area of Western MD. Vac is the only way I can catch them. I was really PO'd until I developed a game, Stinkflick. While sitting in my chair near the woodstove and under a bright reading lamp that really attracts stinkbugs, I wait until one lands on my chair or body, I line him up with the stove, on which is an open pan of hot water, and give him a good flick with the thumb and second finger. With some practice you can bank shot the bug off the fireplace, into the hot water. After a bit of practice, you can do a hard shot off the fireplace on to the stove surface, the record so far for stinkbug backflips is six, before they become toast. Good luck and good flicking.

I really hate to suggest this but maybe you need to get out of the house more often? :laughing::laughing::laughing::laughing: Just say'n. Over on The Front Porch there are a couple of threads running about old TV shows and movies people like. Maybe watching some of the old shows/movies would be helpful if you do not want to leave the house..... :laughing::laughing:

I don't even know ya but I am worried about ya and this "game" of yours. If you keep this up they might make a reality TV show with you as the "star" except I do not think you want to be the "star." :laughing::laughing::laughing:

Thankfully we have not had the Asian buggies at home but they get into the stair wells at work. Some of the stair wells are sided almost completely in glass. The wells on the south side of the buildings stay very warm even in the winter which attracts the bugs. The bugs like the heat and stay in the wells until they die.

The worst bug problem we had was from the moths/worms that is in oats, almonds, granola, etc products. We used to buy from a store that had big bulk bins. We left some of the food in the plastic bag in the cabinets and ended up with a huge infestation of the worms. The eggs would hatch in the food and then out came these little white inch worm like things. They would climb up on the ceiling following the heat. Then they would fall from a single thread from the ceiling. Rather unpleasant when eating or fixing food. It took a couple of years of cleaning to get rid of the bugs.

One of the last times I bought bulk product from the particular store, I was in there near the bulk bins, and the number of moths flying around was unreal. The manager knew about the problem. We just stopped going to the store. Food was expensive and I do not think I should have to pay extra for worms and mouths. If they gave me discount.....

At the new house we had a slight infestation but we got rid of it and now all products bought from a bin go into the freezer.

The StinkFlick game description almost made me spew coffee this morning. :thumbsup:
