L48 or L4610?

Re: L48 Loader Problems

Have'nt seen anything about springs yet, there's a couple bulletins out. One for the relief valve change in the self level valve, one for the updated unload spool, and one for the loader control linkage binding problem. (can't dump in float). Other than that, nothing official about bypassing or adding mechanical linkage for self level yet.

Re: L48 Loader Problems

Finally got a chance to try the tractor with the loader hydraulic leveling valve removed. First I drove the tractor down over the bank and tested using the loader bucket curl to push myself back up and it worked fine.

Next I tried driving the loader bucket into the slate I had broken up with the backhoe last trip. I was able to lift and curl the bucket while loading it as expected.

When I had finished moving what was loosened I backed up to the edge
Started braking more shale lose with the backhoe and was pleasantly surprised to fined that the backhoe had more force. When under load (stalled) I now hear a chattering noise coming from under the center of the tractor that I believe to be the hydraulic relief valve dumping. Never heard this before could it be that the leveler valve had a lower relief setting.

Now for the bad news. After 3 hours or so the loader seem to lose power again. The temperature was in the twenties, what will happen when it is eighty next summer. My brother who's business is repairing big construction equipment says that this usually happen when the hydraulic pump gets warn and the fix is a new pump. But at 80 hours I don't think the pump is worn out

Looks like removing the hydraulic leveler valve shows that there is a design problem with it that Kubota needs to fix. And that I have some kind of internal leakage that shows up when the tractor gets hot.

So back to the dealer.

Question for Rat. What loader bucket did you order? Looks to me like just a ½ in. difference in the spacing of the attachment points would make a big difference in curl force, also weather you have the skid steer quick attach could change the geometry of the loader. Also please let me know if you come up with anything on the bypass idea.

Re: L48 Loader Problems

John,
Did you notice by chance if the hyd fluid somewhat foamy??

I'm kinda taking a shot here..maybe wrong fluid at this time also little water mix w/hyd fluid.

I would be most interested in your out come.

Re: L48 Loader Problems

John, I got the black bucket which is the std. bucket as opposed to the heavy duty (orange). I figured when I get a 4N1 I'll still have the lighter duty material bucket which is still fairly hefty. Again I went out and removed an old tree, stump and all and again, even with full ballast in the tires and 1000lbs of box scraper I verified that in fact the bucket roll back can lift the entire rear end off the ground when I grab onto a large root. I will gladly sacrifice the hydraulic leveler to get full bucket dump force which should theoretically be as great of greater then bucket rollback because of the greater piston area since there is no ram to take away piston surface area. I will work on trying to discover a way to either valve a bypass or simply remove or quick couple the Eaton self leveler. As Kubmech mentioned, the whole process gets complicated and if I do come up with something, I'll most certainly will drop you a line and let you know what I come up with. I have not had any kind of power loss but must admit I have not had the oil that hot after 2 or 3 hours since some of that was PTO work. It does seem that a hotter fluid would not pump as well in a worn pump but in your case, the pump cannot be worn yet. Interference problems from something getting hot seems to be the culprit but even the hottest oil would be hard to believe could cause that kind of problem. I think most hydraulic systems suffer slightly from hot oil but not so significantly as to be enough to worry about or detract from the job being done. A pressure gauge measuring hydraulic pressure after 3 hours would perhaps tell you a few things. Anyway, I'll let you know what comes my way, thanks, Rat...

Re: L48 Loader Problems

Rat, I traded a L-3600 with a 611 Bradco on an L-48 TBL,I only have limited time on the L-48 so I haven't tried or experienced some of the problems listed. I have noticed that the bucket roll seems to change with just raising and lowering the hoist and not touching the curl. When grading with a full bucket and draging backwards on float , the bucket seems to keep working it's self more towards dump without touching the curl. The leveling valve seems to have a bias towards dump. The loader is such an improvement over the 680 on my L-3600, to bad Kubota had to add the self leveling valve, an automatic level kickout would be a much better option than a self level valve that is almost useless except for pallet forks.

Re: L48 Loader Problems

Thomas
Thanks for the suggestion. The 50 hour maintenance included changing the hydraulic fluid. That should eliminate any possible water contamination. I used Kubota UDT fluid at the dealer recommendation. The old fluid when I changed it didn’t appear to be foamy

Re: L48 Loader Problems

John, odd they recommended UDT and not Super UDT since that is what it came with and they seem to stress its use now. I believe it is more temperature stable particularly at the cold end. I have a full set of facts about Super UDT if anyone is interested. It still has no specific mention of synthetic, semi-synthetic etc., but theres alot of info. Rat...

Re: L48 Loader Problems

Rat They told me that it was designed to correct for cold weather problems and that it wouldn't make any difference at operating temperatures. I had some concerns about mixing the two types. The sold me 15 gal. And I filled two 5 gal buckets + about 2 on the floor. That leaves a couple gal. still in the lines and cylinders.
Does the Super UDT info say anything about the high temperature properties of the fluid.
I have a low temperature problem with the power steering on my Dodge / Cummings Ram Pickup. When its below 20 degrees the power steering doesn't work till I tap the throttle once or twice. The fix was to either live with it or replace the fluid with synthetic fluid at $38 a qt. Started the Kubota at 16 and didn't see anything like that.
Another subject. I measured the spacing of the front loader bucket attachment points on my loader. The spacing is 9 ¼ " (See attachment). As we have different buckets, if you get a chance, I would like to know if yours is the same .
