While I was bushogging yesterday in my new L4060 Cab tractor I discovered that the boot that is attached to the steering shaft and seals the Cab was pulled out of the floorboard.

I pushed the boot back into the floorboard area and then reattached the boot to the steering shaft with the clip that Kubota uses.

It didn't take long to discover that the boot doesn't seal very well to the floorboard area, and that with the boot clamped to the steering shaft it didn't take very many turns of the steering wheel to pull the boot seal back out of the floorboard area.

This seems to be a poorly designed boot seal for this tractor.

I looked at the Kubota parts drawings for the L40 series tractors and they use the same basic boot design as the new L60 series, but the L40 series tractors use a different part number boot seal.

I was wondering if one of the L40 series owners could look and see how well the boot seal is attached to your floorboard, and how well it is attached to the steering shaft and let me know if you have had any problems with this, and would like to see any pictures of this boot area if possible.

Thanks,
Stu

I had a similar situation with my 5740, I put a little WD40 on the shaft to keep it from binding and then re-seated the boot. Seems to be working so far but I agree it could be designed a bit better.
