L3800

Hi Folks,
It has been a while since I have been around here but it is nice to be back.

I looked at a L3800HST yesterday it seemed like a very nice machine. I would be replacing a Ford 1710 with it and having the extra size and power will be a nice step up to help maintain my place.

The dealer price was $19850 with FEL. I am wondering if this is a decent price. What do you guys think?

that sounds like a real good price to me.if you havent told them your going to buy a tractor id tell them an see if they come down more on the price.

That is a good price, I would be sure it includes RimGuard, living in NH a block heater would do wonders as well. Have you had your 1710 a long time?

Since you have a 3ph that is pretty smooth... have the dealer put on an implement on the 3ph and raise it up slowly. I had to lift very heavy objects from a trailer using the same 3ph and found it unacceptable... :2cents:

I have been thinking of a block heater too I had one on the 1710 but it burned out this past winter.

Its not the PTO , They work fine, its the 3 point hitch. if you move it up slowly with an implement on the back it is jerky, in this series they all do it to one extent or another. It doesnt bother me, I just move it up quickly and there will only be one "jerk" at the end of travel, but if you try to move the control lever very slowly it will be a series of "jerks" . You can feather it down slowly all you want as it is smooth as silk going down.

Not saying this is a big problem, it is a zero problem for me, but just wanted you to know going in. If you were to operate a boom pole to pull engines from the engine bays of cars. it could be a problem.

I would suggest having the dealer add rear remotes, in case you want to add a backhoe or log-splitter in the future. I (mildly) regret not thinking of that when I ordered my L3800HST...

Thanks for straightening me out on the problem with the 3-point hitch. I guess I got confused. I plan on visiting the dealer on Friday so I will ask to check this out.

I have a seperate machine that is a loader backhoe so this machine will never have a backhoe on it. I also currently have a log splitter that has its own hydraulic system.

The idea of having rear remotes is a good one. I think I may ask to have this added on.

I am still up in the air about the L3800 vs. a GL3540. I think the later is overkill for what I need but I am not sure. Anyone want to chime in?

I looked at the Lxx00 Series and much prefer the GL.
