L3400 extra light plugs ?

My L3400 has extra electric plugs under the rear fenders,can these be used for work lights? there is no mention of them in the service manual

Those are the work light circuit. They go back to a 10 amp fuse at the fuse block labeled work light. The power to the work light circuit is switched through the ignition. You should be able to add two 55 watt lights on that circuit. I added six lights to mine on three seperate circuits from the battery and I used the work light circuit to power the coils on my relays. The L3400 has a 40 amp alternator so you can add quite a few lights.

Exactly where under the fender? Are they out in the open or wrapped up with tape or something? Thanx

I have an L2500 and I used the one that is only hot when the lights are on to add a rear facing light mounted on the ROPS. The other one is hot all the time and would have to be switched independently. (They end in quick connects. You just have to have the matching end)

Under each fender near the tail light connections are a yellow wire and a black wire that end in bullet connectors. On mine they were hanging out in the open. On the L3400 these are the same circuit and they are both switched with the ignition switch.

Yup, thanks emmy77 you are exactly right. Now to shop for lights.Do I have it right that installing a relay will extend the life of other components? and what type of relay?

Here's how I did mine. It really depends on how many lights you wanted to add. If it were only two lights I would keep it simple and switch the existing work light circuit with a switch rated for 20 or 30 amps. More than two lights and the relays are a better option. The relays can be purchased at any auto parts store. Here are some pictures of the wiring, relays, and fuses.

I added one 55w halogen to mine, switched with a waterproof toggle switch mounted to the left of the steering column. The yellow wire w/red flecks is the positive (hot) wire, the black is ground.

The relay will help the switch last longer, but you're better to use a switch rated for the expected current draw. 55W divided by 12 volts = 4.7 amps.

Here are some pictures of the switches and lights. I've got six 55 watt lights. Looks like an alien ship mowing at night. Actually, I usually only use four lights at a time. Two sets in front for loader work or both sets on the canopy for mowing.

Remember finding the wiring harness under the seat in that plastic stuff, beholds the soldered connection of two wires that go to the wires that you describe under the rear fenders that have the "Bayonet?" connectors.

I cut into this wire and installed a switch leg for my two rear lights. Previous threads (Year or so) discussed this. I will look ASAP to identify wire colors / location and hope to post pic.

The Kubota rear work light is about $ 100.

It only works when the headlights are on but it also has a switch on the light itself in case you do not want it on.

It has a heavy duty bracket that mounts to the ROPS with a u-bolt.

The light itself id very nice quality with a steel housing.

My local dealers were within $ 3.00 of each other on my L3400 HST.

One of them added one rear worklight at no extra cost to seal the deal.
