My new L3400DT is on the way. Thanks for the input weather you added to the thread or posted years ago that I found using searches. Thanks.

To the L34xx owners out there: What size rough cut mower, box blade and finish mower would you recommend or have you used with good or bad results. I will be rough cutting mostly field grass (very little woody material), general use box blading, and finish mowing 3-5 acres when the house is done. (BTW - R4 tires and FEL on the tractor)

I'm leaning toward a 60" Box Blade and a 72" finish mower (next year). The rough cutter is where I'm really torn. I don't want to start a brand discussion, just a size discussion.

Thanks! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I have the L2800 and recommend a BB with at least 65" width to cover your tracks, here is a link to pics of two different BB's on my L2800. Look under My Album.
The Bush Hog brand was the first one I used on the L2800 and is good quality and worked well, I upgraded to the Cammond for the hyd scarfiers and it is a beast.

I have an L3410. You can easily handle any 60" cutter. Probably a 72" is ok given your listed use of little woody stuff getting cut.

If you are going to be rough cutting down a lot of fence line or around many other objects I would go with a 72".

I have a 60" and even with the FEL off it is tight mowing the fencelines.

Congratulations on your new machine! I hope you love it as much as I do mine. 72" RFM and 60" rotary mowers are working very well for me.

I just got my L3400HST a few weeks ago (also w/ R4's and FEL). I bought a Woods RD72 finish mower and it works great.

You guys with the RFM's have any problems with the weight of the tractor/deck combo causing rutting? How about the R4's tearing the sod apart?

Thanks again.

My experience was that the R4's left some damage to the turf, but not nearly like what my skid steer does (imagine that). I am told that turf tires will leave no damage as long as the ground is hard enough to ensure that they float and leave no ruts. I picked up a set of turf tires late last season, but have yet to try them out. This on a Kubota Grand L3830.

I run a Woods RD7200 on my L3400 HST. No trouble with power. I have no problems with rutting using R4's. This depends a lot on what type of soil you have though. I have one low area when it rains a real lot that gets soft. I'm more careful about turning in there when it's wet.

But my lawn is "country". I don't have a story book lawn.

My property is mostly flat so during winter and rainy spring I'm a little tentative driving my L3400 in certain areas but I had to do that with turf tires on a B2100 as well. So far no problems, I love the L3400!

No question, my R4s will leave marks on wet soil...but then again, so will heavy boots. I have not found any trouble with marks or ruts during the typical grass cutting months when the lawn is dry enough to walk around on with just shoes on. I also try to avoid cranking the machine around in a tight corner with 4x4 engaged. Shawn

Mine is on the way too so I have no experience but will share my selections. I went with a 60" BH with a 60HP gearbox. I do have some rough stuff to cut and wanted to be sure I would not tear it up. Also went with the R4s. If I had the money for a RFM, it would be a 72".

Hopefully mine will arrive next week.
