L3000 won't start

No lights on dash, won't preheat glow plugs, battery checks good (12.6v), short across solenoid does nothing

Ignition switch?

Safety switch. I did the same thing when I bumped the pto lever getting out of the cab and nothing would happen.

Found that battery was shorting out when key was turned on. Cleaned terminals and connectors, fired up!

All electrical troubleshooting should start at the battery, voltage at the posts is not a valid indicator. Voltage at the cable ends under load is much better. Tractors don't typically get "fuzzy" corrosion like cars do, they get a black corrosion that you can't see until you take the cables off and clean the terminals and posts. I never start any electrical troubleshooting without doing this first and testing the battery.

I have a much different tractor (a G1800) but I experienced similar symptoms last month. In my case, the lights would light up but the starter wouldn't engage. I won't go into everything I tried, but the problem turned out to be a bad battery ground cable connection. Try removing the cable from the chassis and lightly grinding down or cleaning the metal on the chassis and the cable connector. Even if that's not the problem, it's not a lot of work and costs nothing to do. If it doesn't work you will have at least eliminated one source of the problem.
