l 3400 hst question

i have a l 3400 with a hst transmission. when the tractor is running and in gear i depress the pedal forward or reverse and it makes a grinding noise. i was wondering if i could get any input on this problem would be greatly appreciated.

Does the tractor move or just makes the noise? Is the Low, Med. High range selector in gear?

Oh, that doesn't sound good. Make sure the range selector is "fully" in gear, not just partially engageing. If it is fully engaged.. it is beyond me. Mine is smooth as silk.

yes it makes noise in all three gears. the tractor does move. it sounds like when the clutch is not fully released and you hit the gas pedal prematurley. the tractor has only 56 hours. thanks mike

Mike, when did this problem start? and what might have caused it? any ideas? Also this might sound stupid, but any chance you might have something like a piece of wire wrapped around your front drive shaft? Just grasping at straws here, as I don't really have any other good ideas.

it started a few days ago. i was using the tractor in four well drive about a 7 to 10 days ago.

Start by process of elimination.

So we know it does it in all three gears

Does it do it in both 2wd and 4wd??

Is the pto engaged or disengaged?? or stuck half way inbetween???

What about in neutral and and working the loader/3PH to put a little strain on the hyd. pump???

If this still doesnt help narrow it down, I would recomend a call/trip to the dealer if it is still under warrenty.
