Has any one used/operated one of these.
Can it do quite a bit of work.

I would want to use it to build my new house in the mountains. it would be used with a jack hammer quite a bit.

Have seen it work, I have KX121, wish it was a 161, I think the KX080 is too big for most landscapers and too small for most contractors for the price. Nice thumb, much better than the other Kubota machines and I believe it is the biggest exc. you can get with the swivel boom function. I would go steel tracks as the machine is 18K lbs.

I think my house is going to take about 5 years to build this is why I was thinking about this machine.

Do people think I could do the same with my L48? I will hit bedrock between 2 and 5' so I will not be going that deep.

Other thoughts?

We have about 45 hours on KX 080-3 and it is a very strong machine. We have been using it to clear land and to pull stumps. It does take a little time to get comfortable with it size, as compared to the much smaller KX-161. I find you can put a full day in the machine and feel relaxed there is plenty of leg room and the seat is much more roomey. The view of the bucket and and arms are good the mirrors are important to monitor your position in relations to your work site enviorment.As far as work it can do I can say we are taking out stumps the the 161 would have a hard time working. The balance of the machine is very important to me and the KX 080 has excellent balance with it large counter weigh. We had a kx121-2 many years ago and it had much better balance then Kx 121-3. If you get a chance to run KX080 you will see this balance once you bury the bucket and feel how the machine handles pulling out a full load the machine is very smooth with little jaring.

As far as larger excavators with independent boom swing you can get a Takeuchi TB1140 that is a 31,878 lb machine and has a backfill blade as standard equipment. This machine will give you 22,188 lbs breakout force. The boom swing is 77 degrees right and 53 degrees left.

Yup, I noticed Ingersoll Rand aka Bobcat offers 26K lbs. machines as well with boom swivels. Link belt makes some pretty cool excavators with booms which are jointed. I wonder how effective that is.?
