Kubota Steering wheel removal help needed.

I get mine off by removing the plastic triangular cover, removing the nut and washer and soaking the shaft from the top with PBlaster and letting it sit a couple hours and then thumping the underside with a dead blow mallet. Comes right off and when putting it back on, put some silver never seize on the spines, it makes removal next time a snap.

Thanks for the response 5030! I have tried that method and have had no luck in removing. The metal splined part of the wheel is encapsulated in plastic and there is very little clearance to get a decent swing at the center of the wheel. I wound up damaging the plastic a little and backed off before causing any more. Found a work-around to accessing the underside of the dash without taking the wheel off.

Would still be interested to know if there is a safe way to take it off without damage. Have not tried lifting on the wheel with the nut loosened and using pneumatic hammer at top of steering shaft. I wouldn't want to subject that shaft to too much of that force because it goes directly into the steering controller.

Use a block of wood on the underside of the wheel (after the PBlaster soaks in) and hit the block of wood with a mallet. It will come of and yes you need to be careful as the shaft goes right into the orbital steering wheel controller. I've removed mine numerous times on my M9's. Only way to access the dash cowl.

Hey scootr; was wondering if you ever figured out a good way to remove the steering wheel?
I did not - I was installing a flashing parking brake warning light. I ended up just making a hole and fishing the wire through as needed.

Ah crap.. Was hoping you had found a way since our models are very close. I will likely try 5030's method again and see if I am successful.

Thanks for the response!

Not sure if this would be applicable in the case of a steering wheel. I had to remove wheels from a couple manlifts that were giving our tech a hard time. These were keyed (not splined) IIRC. Removed nuts and put some pulling tension on the wheel to take up what little slack there was. Then used a pointy chisel bit in an air chisel in the dimple in the center of the shaft.

Kubota made a steering wheel puller, part no.07916-51090, but it has been discontinued. Saw a price for it as slightly over $1k. Probably did not sell many of them at that price.

Doesn't look like it should be $250 / pound:)

Remove nut.
Apply force to the underside of steering wheel with knees. If necessary put something down to put your feet on to get the leverage to apply force.
Smack the steering wheel hub with a rubber hammer.
